architecture and the environment

From time immemorial, architecture has been an expression of transformative human activity on the environment, a creation, changing its face, yet flowing deeply from it. In the past, architecture used local building blocks and was limited by human hands. Observing natural phenomena, the changes of the seasons, the migration of the sun, builders tried to create the best possible conditions for life in a given place. Like the architecture of mountain lands in the form of shelters or shepherd's huts, which flows from a deep relationship with the terrain, but not only. The angle of the roof slope is much greater in the Podhale than in similar structures in the Alps, which is due to the issue of local climatic conditions. You can read more about this in the material Dariusz Kronowski's "Architecture of mountain lands".

landscape architecture today

Areas untouched by human activity are today becoming an extremely valuable, vanishing resource. The challenge in a world full of almost unlimited possibilities is to create places that, given the needs of people, generate modest responses that at the same time harmonize with nature, do not harm it and create unique, respectful conditions for human contact with nature. Spaces where this contact is possible, but still in "tamed" or "tame" conditions, are projects on a variety of scales and ranges: from a park in a city, to mountain lodges, spas, marinas, and small architecture like a Norwegian hytte or chalet in the Alps. In the most radical cases, the idea is to provide man with the bare minimum - so that contact with nature is, as little as possible, disturbed. This type of architecture is often finished in raw or wood-fired wood, and the interiors are modest providing a place to sleep and eat a meal, relative warmth and a roof over one's head, but nothing else.

sustainable architecture that harmonizes with nature

Increased public awareness of ecology is resulting in an increasing emphasis on the use, including in construction, of various types of technologies that reduce the negative impact on the environment. A more holistic approach to construction also means thinking about a building in the context of its entire life cycle - using natural materials, greater functional flexibility. Also on a macro scale. Faced with the threat of water scarcity, Copenhagen decides to collect rainwater, retaining it in the form of ponds in the city's parks.
