Small architecture

Small-scale architecture, such as public transportation stops, benches and pavilions, are an integral part of our everyday life. They are places of direct encounters with design in open space. Modern objects of small architecture surprise with material solutions and attention to detail.

small urban architecture

Despite its small scale, small architecture in the city is of great importance. Urban furniture, benches, bicycle racks, various types of seating or playground elements, make up the reality of the built environment. It is up to the designers to determine the safety, color, shape or durability of the elements of small architecture. In Poznan, architects from Atelier Starzak Strebicki studio designed for The Art Center a mobile exhibition system. Its display elements are made of weather-resistant steel sheets. They are not only functional, but also easy to maintain. Well-designed small architecture also does not overlook aesthetic issues. Connecting Germany with France, the tram stop was conceived not only as a shelter from rain or sun, the minimalist form of the stop's two canopies creates an interesting urban scenery, built using only oval concrete slabs.

contemporary pavilions

Modern pavilions are not just exhibition or garden pavilions. An example is the modular canopy electric vehicle charging stations along Denmark's E20 highway, which resembles branching trees in its form. The wooden canopy is intended to contrast with traditional charging stations and promote clean energy. Studio Toggle and Hessy Althuwaikh in their project wants to draw attention to the huge amount of waste generated during construction work and proposes a more rational use of wood. As part of the project, the UNIT+ created a temporary installation-manifest made from wooden construction waste used for formwork during formwork. The material was collected and cleaned, then the planks were cut into equal pieces and modules were created to make up the form of the gate, which stood in Al-Shaheed Park.
