The Bohaterów Westerplatte Naval Academy has announced a competition to develop an architectural and urban design concept for a new marina at Babi Doły in Gdynia. The purpose of the Competition is to obtain the best architectural, urban planning, spatial and functional-utility concept for the design solution of the AMW Academic Maritime Training Center in Babie Doły, including facilities and development of the land part of the marina in the area indicated in the competition regulations.

purpose

The purpose of the Competition is to obtain the best architectural, urban planning, spatial and functional-utility concept for the design solution of the AMW Academic Maritime Training Center in Babie Doły, including facilities and development of the land part of the marina in the area indicated in the Competition Regulations.

terms and conditions

The competition is a limited, two-stage competition .

The competition is to select an architectural concept for the construction of a part of the foundation of the AMW Academic Maritime Training Center in Babi Doły.

The newly created facility will serve as a training and didactic base of the AMW, with the purpose of conducting, among other things, basic and specialized training in sailing, rowing, motorboat and all-sea sailing, as well as military training.

Within the area to be developed in the competition, two buildings are to be designed: the Main Building of the AMW Academic Maritime Training Center in Babie Doły with a hangar for water equipment, a maneuvering area to allow entry and exit of floating equipment, and an auxiliary building with the necessary infrastructure and landscaping. The auxiliary building is to provide social and catering facilities for training groups.

An integral element of the entire premise of the AMW Academic Maritime Training Center in Babi Doły is the water part, including floating piers, a slip or shore band. Objects located within the water part should be included in the Study and the Competition Work.

In Stage I, the contestants are to create a Study in the form of one 100x70cm board and a descriptive part of a maximum of three A4 formats, while in Stage II the qualified teams will submit Works consisting of up to four 100x70cm boards and a descriptive part of a maximum of five A4 formats.

The Contracting Authority requires that all participants qualified for Stage I of the competition take part in a site visit.

Competition works will be evaluated in terms of attractiveness of the proposed architectural solutions and land development, functional-utility efficiency of the entire spatial layout (including accessibility), accuracy of the inclusion of the designed buildings in the context of the surroundings and the entire spatial premise. Optimization of the solution of the space and the program in terms of the budget of the Investment and the application of pro-ecological and pro-climate solutions.

  • First Prize - PLN 30,000 gross and an invitation to negotiate a sole-source contract for the development of the design documentation based on the selected competition work.
  • II Prize - PLN 20,000 gross
  • III Prize - PLN 15,000 gross

  • Deadline for submitting requests for clarification of the regulations: until April 10, 2025
  • Deadline for responding to requests for clarification of the content of the regulations: by April 20, 2025
  • Deadline for submission of applications for admission to the competition: by April 22, 2025, 9:00 a.m.
  • Deadline for notification of eligibility to participate in the competition and invitation to submit Phase I studies:
    April 25, 2025
  • Site visit: May 5, 2025
  • Deadline for submission of requests for clarification of the content of the regulations regarding the Study Paper: until May 16, 2025
  • Deadline for submission of Study Papers in Stage I of the competition: June 2, 2025 by 3:00 pm
