descriptionOn May 27, 2021, on the official website of the SARP Bielsko-Biala Branch, members of the jury announced the results of a study competition for the development of an urban-architectural concept for the Bielsko-Biala Transfer Center.
The competition was organized by the Bielsko-Biala branch of the Association of Polish Architects at the request of the city hall. Its purpose was to select an urban-architectural concept that was the best in terms of functionality, use and composition, taking into account the context of the existing development of the area and its surroundings in the material, aesthetic, cultural and social sense.
The area designated in the competition covered 30 hectares around the railroad grounds, including the historic train station. The main challenge facing the designers was to create a new vision for the site, which is partly a post-industrial fragment of the suburbs and railroad areas in need of revitalization, and partly an important part of the center of Bielsko-Biała.
51 participants qualified for the competition. Formal requirements were met by 10 design works. The jury decided not to award the first prize.
The awarded projects are to be used for the adoption of a local zoning plan. The final awards were two second prizes, a third prize and two honorable mentions.
The awarded projects are to be used for the adoption of a local development plan.
