description

On June 29, the results of the student graduation competition for the design of the HUB WIELICZKA art gallery on Slowackiego Street in Wieliczka were announced. The competition was held under the auspices of SARP Krakow.

The projects were prepared by students of the sixth semester of architecture at the Cracow University of Technology under the direction of: dr. hab. inż. arch. Magdalena Kozień - Woźniak, dr. inż. arch. Paweł Żuk, M.Sc. arch. Eliza Owczarek and M.Sc. arch. Marcin Gierbienis, and in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Yelda Aydın Türk and Dr. Beyza Karadeniz of Karadeniz Technical University in Trabzon, Turkey.

The competition task, the design of the art gallery building, was in addition to the design task for the students, who had previously performed analysis and development studies of the site at the Wieliczka clinic. At the time, they proposed changes in communication, including the introduction of a connector between Szpunara and Słowackiego streets and the reorganization of parking spaces. The art gallery building, located vis a vis Mediateka, is to be used to expand the city's cultural offer.

The students' works were evaluated by both the jury and Internet users. The jury awarded prizes and honorable mentions, while Internet users chose the winner of the Internauts' Grand Prix, and also awarded an honorable mention.

The works were judged by a group of esteemed architects from all over Poland, whose projects and realizations have won many awards in architectural competitions. The jury paid special attention to the spatial relationship of the object, stressing that jes is a place where new buildings cannot dominate the surroundings. Similarly, they considered as an important value the sensitivity not only to the design of the body of the building, but also to the development, which in the idea was to be a social space connecting the square by the mediatheque with the clinic, which is about to be rebuilt. Looking at the green spaces within is particularly important in the time we are in, a pandemic, but also a warming climate and overheating of urban space.

The jury consisted of:

  • Urszula Forczek - Brataniec, em4 Pracownia Architektury Brataniec
  • Marcin Brataniec, em4 Pracownia Architektury Brataniec
  • Bartłomiej Kisielewski, horizone studio
  • Piotr Marciniak, Kurylowicz & Associates
  • Michał Szymanowski, Studio S. Biuro Architektoniczne
  • Paweł Wieczorek, Artur Jasiński & Associates
