Make me! Results of international design competition for young designers, 2022 edition

On May 13, 2022, during a gala as part of the ongoing Łódź Design Festival, we got to know the results of the next edition of the international competition for young designers make me!

The main goal of the competition , which is now in its fourteenth year, is to forecast upcoming trends, bold ideas and support creators between the ages of 20 and 35.

The purpose of the competition was also to identify and promote students, graduates and designers of the younger generation, whose works are characterized primarily by:

  • responding to the significant challenges of modern times,
  • addressing important problem areas,
  • unconventional treatment of the topic,
  • originality and innovation in the proposed solution,
  • consistency between the stated goal, the path to its implementation and the result,
  • the form, which corresponds to the objectives of the project, while meeting aesthetic aspects,
  • the potential for implementation.

The competition was divided into two stages, the first one received as many as 147 applications, it was from these that the jury selected 26 projects that went to the second stage.

The submissions were evaluated by a jury consisting of:

  • Izabela Bołoz,
  • Krzysztof Kornas,
  • Joanna Krokosz,
  • Tomek Rygalik,
  • Agata Kiedrowicz,
  • Maurizio Burrato,
  • Michal Piernikowski - director of Lodz Design Festival.

The jury awarded the following prizes (each in the amount of PLN 10,000 gross):

First Prize went to Julia Sulikowska for her Urban Coolspot Project. The author also received two special awards in the amount of PLN 10 thousand gross each, funded by the event's partners - Cosentino brand and INTERPRINT.

Second Prize was awarded to Maciej Glowacki for his CRN_01 "Hummingbird" swab project.

Third Prize was won by the work URBAN CLAY, by the duo of Michalina Zadykowicz and Sabrina Hass (Austria).

A special prize awarded by LPP in the amount of PLN 10,000 gross was given to Laura Van De Wijdeven from the Netherlands for her design of ceramics made from eggshells.

The exhibition of the finalists of the international competition for young designers make me! can be seen in the Art_Inkubator space in the Art Factory (3 Tymienieckiego Street) during the 16th edition of the Łódź Design Festival.
