Results of student competition for revitalization of Orunia district in Gdansk

On July 8, 2022, the results of the competition for first-semester undergraduate students at the Faculty of Architecture at Gdansk University of Technology were announced. This was the fourteenth competition held by the City of Gdansk together with the Faculty of Architecture of PG.
This year's topic was a project to revitalize the Orunia district of Gdansk.
Students were to propose new urban and architectural solutions to support the revitalization program for the Orunia district.
Before starting the design work, the contestants had a site visit and received a set of information from the Revitalization Department at the Gdansk Development Office.
The students' task was to develop a master plan for the quarter of Sandomierska - Równa - Głucha - Przy Torze streets on an urban scale and to design a fragment ofthe development on an architectural scale.
Twenty-two design teams participated in the competition.
The projects were evaluated by a jury consisting of:
- Dr. Katarzyna Zielonko-Jung prof. PG - chairman of the court,
- Prof. Antoni Taraszkiewicz,
- Dr. Gabriela Rembarz,
- Prof. Piotr Lorens - city architect,
- Ewa Pielak - deputy director of the Gdansk Development Office,
- Agnieszka Bartków - chairwoman of the Orunia-Sw. Wojciech-Lipce District Council.
The jury awarded two main prizes and eleven honorable mentions.
First Prize in the amount of PLN 6 thousand gross was awarded to the team composed of Łukasz Bogucki, Kornelia Galikowska, Maciej Groth for the project entitled Equals.
Second Prize in the amount of PLN 3 thousand gross was awarded to the project "o¯ywienie" by the team composed of: Marta Hrycyna, Liliana Kruszyńska, Karolina Krużycka, Natalia Lambert.
In the distinguished eleven competition works, the jury saw a palette of refined solutions for selected design elements, which can be used in the discussion of the future of the district and the directions of its development. Each of the distinguished teams received a prize of PLN 1,000, and all the competition boards can be viewed on the website of the Office of the City Architect.
