Results of the PWr student competition for the design of an amphitheater with a concert shell in Strzegom

descriptionOn January 26 this year we learned the results of a student competition to develop a concept for a service area with a concert shell in Strzegom.
The competition, aimed at architecture students of the Wroclaw University of Technology, was organized by the Municipality of Strzegom together with WA PWr.
The purpose of the competition was to obtain a concept for a new cultural and recreational facility - an open-air stage with an auditorium for about 300 people, which could provide a suitable setting for the International Folklore Festival, the Strzegom a capella Festival and other outdoor cultural events organized annually by the Municipality of Strzegom.
Participants were asked to propose a concert shell volume with an individual form that could become a showcase of the municipality, designed in an environmentally responsible manner and accessible to people with disabilities, along with an environment designed in accordance with the principles of universal design.
When evaluating the submitted works, the competition jury was guided by the following criteria: originality and coherence of the concept, adaptation of valuable greenery to the surroundings, innovative vision of the amphitheater and concert shell, quality and flexibility of functional solutions, proposals for sustainable material solutions.
The competition projects were evaluated by a jury consisting of:
- Zbigniew Suchyta - mayor of Strzegom,
- Katarzyna Cioruń - head of the Investment and Public Procurement Department of the Municipality of Strzegom,
- Krzysztof Kalinowski - director of the Strzegom Cultural Center,
- Dr. Roman Czajka - associate dean for education, WA PWr;
- Aleksandra Gierko, Ph.D.,landscape architect - referee, WA PWr,
- Lukasz Wojciechowski , Ph.D. - WA PWr,
- Dr. Grażyna Hryncewicz-Lamber - organizational secretary (without voting rights).
After evaluating the submitted works, the jury decided not to award the first prize.
Thesecond prize of PLN 6,500 gross, was awarded to Jan Warchol.
Third prize of PLN 5,500 gross was awarded to Frederick Karzkowiak.
The jury also awarded an honorable mention of PLN 3,000 gross, which went to the team composed of: Dominik Gromek, Bartosz Tenenberg.
