purpose
The Annual Zbyszek Zawistowski Award "DIPLOM OF THE YEAR" is awarded by the Association of Polish Architects for the best diploma project to a graduate/graduate who obtained a Master of Science in Architecture degree from a higher education institution in Poland in 2024.
conditions and stages of the competition
The competition is open to diploma theses, master's degrees, completed at a Polish university within the framework of education resulting in the award of the Master of Science degree in Architectural Engineering, in the calendar year preceding the holding of the competition, which have received a positive opinion from the diploma committee of the relevant Faculty of Architecture.
The subject of the submitted work should be a design task developed by a single graduate/graduate. Submission of works made by a team of authors is allowed conditionally in justified cases.
Works nominated by the Selection Committees in the 1st stage of the competition may apply for the award.
The competition consists of three stages:
- Stage 1 - receipt and evaluation of applications by the Qualification Committees appointed in the SARP Branches territorially competent for the university.
- Stage 2 - evaluation and selection of 25 works from among the projects selected by the Qualifying Commissions. The evaluation is carried out by the Competition Jury appointed by the SARP General Board.
- Stage 3 - Presentation of the projects by the 25 selected authors/authors, their evaluation and decision on the award and honorable mentions.
Those entitled to submit diploma works to the Competition at Stage 1 are: with the written consent of the author/author: promoter, reviewer, dean based on the opinion of the departmental Diploma Committees, the Diploma Committee or other collegial bodies appointed by the dean; the graduate/graduate student, with the written consent of the promoter or reviewer.

evaluation criteria
The competition theses are evaluated in three stages. The main criterion for the evaluation of the submitted theses are the high architectural and urban design values of the project and their importance in the process of spatial shaping of the human living environment. These elements will be evaluated in terms of the spatial and artistic values of the work, its ideological value, relationship and impact on the shaping of the environment, as well as the innovativeness and technical level of the presented solutions. Solutions to environmental and energy issues of the designed object will also be taken into account.

- Each SARP Branch Qualification Committee determines and announces the deadline for submission of competition entries - April 2, 2025
- Completion of Stage 1 - April 9, 2025
- Information on the results of Stage 1 - April 16, 2025
- Commencement of Stage 2, deliberations of the Competition Jury - April 25, 2025
- Completion of Stage 2, release of information on qualified theses for Stage 3 - by May 5, 2025
- Delivery of the theses of qualified graduates - May 12, 2025
- Completion of Stage 3, presentation of diploma theses - June 5, 2025
- Ceremony of presentation of awards and prizes - June 6, 2025
awards
The Competition Jury shall determine, in consultation with the SARP Main Board, the amounts allocated for prizes and possible awards, within the budget funds allocated for this purpose.
All works participating in Stage 3 and considered by the Competition Jury will be presented in a post-competition exhibition.
the competition court
The Competition Jury, to evaluate the Competition works in Stages 2 and 3, as well as the Competition Jury secretary, is appointed by the SARP Main Board. The Competition Court of 7 to 9 persons consists of a chairman, a referee and judges.
The composition of the court is selected from among:
- SARP president or vice-president (acting as chairman of the Competition Court and directing the work of the Court),
- winners of SARP architectural and environmental awards from the year preceding the edition of the "DIPLOMA OF THE YEAR" Award: "SARP Award of the Year", "Polish Cement in Architecture", "Honorary Award of SARP", "Bene Merentibus SARP",
- representatives of the architectural community from abroad,
- judges from the list of SARP Competition Judges,
- representative of the competition partner.
