The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, has announced the 11th edition of the Architectural Award of the President of the Capital City of Warsaw. The best projects completed in 2024 and architectural events can be submitted to the competition.
terms and conditions
Candidates for the Award may be submitted by any resident of the City of Warsaw, architectural studios, designers, investors, including the authors of the submitted buildings. The Jury considers buildings located within the administrative boundaries of the City of Warsaw, the execution of which was completed in the year preceding its award, as well as events and other architectural projects that took place in Warsaw in the year preceding the award.
The jury nominates and awards prizes in nine categories:
- Public utility architecture-buildingsand complexes of public administration, justice, culture, religious worship, education, higher education, science, health care, social and welfare care, sports, spectacular and congress, passenger service in rail, road, air or water transport, or multifunctional with predominance of the above functions;
- Commercial architecture - buildings and complexes of office, retail, service, manufacturing, warehousing or multifunctional buildings with predominance of the above functions;
- Residential architecture - multi-family and single-family residential buildings and complexes of buildings (estates, colonies) with predominance of the residential function;
- New life of buildings - examples of revitalization, modernization, renovation or conservation of buildings and spatial assumptions;
- Public space design - public spaces (e.g. streets, squares), green areas (parks, squares), transportation facilities (bridges, footbridges, overpasses, interchanges, parking lots), small architecture and urban furniture (unique or systemic), as well as permanent artistic objects in public space. Private spaces are also eligible for the category, provided they are publicly accessible;
- Architectural event - one-time and recurring events and publications related to architecture, urbanism and design, such as festivals, exhibitions, discussions, lectures, tours, workshops, print and digital publications, applications, etc., as well as temporary/one-time architectural or artistic interventions in public space. They can be addressed to local, national or international audiences, and can address both local and universal issues, provided that the venue of the event (presentation of an exhibition, publication of a book, etc.) is Warsaw;
- Award for pro-environmental solutions - awarded from among the nominations for awards in the categories indicated in items. 1-6. The award will be based on an analysis of the nominated sites in terms of the application of solutions for green or blue infrastructure, energy efficiency, counteracting air pollution emissions;
- Award for solutions to ensure accessibility, especially for people with limited mobility or perception - awarded from among the nominations for awards in the categories indicated in items. 1-6. The award will be based on accessibility assessments of the nominated objects carried out in cooperation with the Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw for accessibility or other expert body;
