Weronika Budzichowska of To Be Design designed a home for Ewa and Maciek. The interior is full of family memorabilia, design gems and classics from the communist period.

The second life of the family house

The building is the investor's family home. It is located on the outskirts of Mlawa, on the edge of a forest, surrounded by green areas. The interior required a lot of modernization work. The walls and floors were wrought, and all installations were replaced. All that remained was to arrange the rooms. This task was entrusted by the investors to Veronica Budzichowska. Ewa and Maciek already had a vision of their dream house and a lot of their favorite furniture and decorations. The architect took care of arranging these elements into an aesthetic and functional whole.

- I like when the sense, family, passions, stories and character of the owners resound in the interior. This is exactly what happened in this case. From the beginning we had a family piano, a table from my great-grandmother, an armchair from my grandfather, collections of photos and music and movie posters. The owners are involved in music and dance on a daily basis, so it couldn't be missing from their home," says the architect.

An eclectic mix of modern and past

The natural choice, then, was vintage style. The owners have managed to collect a lot of interesting furniture over the years, both classics from the communist period and gems of design. Such an eclectic mix includes Chierowski armchairs, a "dachshund" chest of drawers and a 70-year-old great-grandmother's table. Many of them were restored by the investors themselves, giving them a new quality or restoring them to their former splendor. They are complemented by chairs made on the model of old Thonet models, as well as music posters and a multicolored lamp over the table, which was handmade by the owner. A note of modernity is introduced by a honey-colored sofa with velour upholstery, industrial lamps on the ceiling and a golden wall lamp contrasting with the blue wall. The dot over the i are delicate stuccowork.

- I really like it when owners ask to leave or place specific items in the arrangement, because they are important to them. Designing is a process, and the most important thing for me in the creative process is to combine the client's needs with aesthetic and functional solutions. In this case it worked out perfectly," Weronika Budzichowska concludes.

Colors taken from folklore

Colors also play an important role here. Ewa and Maciek love folklore and it was the inspiration for the color palette used here. Deep, saturated hues create a friendly, lively arrangement. Describing this project, the architect emphasizes that with the help of colors, selected furnishings can be highlighted. The play with color, present on the walls in the living room, continues in the hall by the stairs. Black and orange create an intriguing background for a simple mirror.

The piano, which the older son is learning to play, stood against a blue wall. In the kitchen, the designer opted for soothing green. The ergonomic cabinetry was made of laminated panels in just this shade. The walls of the toilet are decorated with wallpaper in pink flowers, while the ceiling and surrounding stucco were painted in a delicate shade of pink that matched the flowers.
