Finishing furniture with precious metal flakes
The technique of decorating furniture with flakes of precious metals, such as gold and silver, has its roots in antiquity. In the Egypt of the pharaohs, gilding of furniture, sarcophagi and architectural elements was used, considering these materials a symbol of divinity and power. Similar techniques were used in Greece and Rome, where gold and silver decorations adorned temples, palaces and everyday objects. In the Middle Ages, the art of gilding developed mainly within the framework of sacred crafts, decorating altars, icons and manuscripts. The breakthrough came during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, especially in France and Italy, where master craftsmen perfected the technique of applying precious metal flakes to furniture, picture frames and architectural details. At Versailles, at the court of Louis XIV, silver-plated and gilded furniture symbolized the power of the monarchy. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the craft evolved, and silvering of furniture became popular in Rococo, Classical and Art Déco styles. Today, thanks to modern technologies and precise application methods, the technique is experiencing a renaissance, allowing the creation of unique and luxurious interior designs.

Art requiring precision
Creating furniture decorated with silver flakes is a demanding art of craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques with great precision and experience. The process consists of several stages, each of which requires exceptional care and skill.
- Each front decorated with silver flakes is an individual work of art, in which the hand of a master can be seen," emphasizes Krzysztof Wirchomski.
Artisans must be very delicate, as the metal is susceptible to the slightest distortion

The work begins with proper preparation of the surface - usually wood, metal or glass. The material must be carefully smoothed, and then covered with a special primer, which ensures perfect adhesion of delicate silver flakes. The silvering process is also done by hand. The craftsman, using special tools, carefully transfers extremely thin flakes of metal to the surface, taking care that their structure is arranged in the intended pattern. The next stage is the application of a properly selected patina, which gives the surface the desired effect and shade. Finally, the whole thing is protected with varnish, which not only protects the silver layer, but also emphasizes its unique character.
- This process requires experience and perfection, as the metal is extremely delicate and prone to the slightest distortion. This is craftsmanship at the highest level, aimed at connoisseurs of design and luxury. Our proprietary method of decorating the glass surfaces of SILVER fronts creates a unique coloration that is different every time," adds the founder of the Wirchomski Manufaktura brand.

What to combine silver-plated furniture with?
Silver-plated furniture is a perfect base for arranging high-standard interiors, where every detail matters. They go well with natural marble, especially in light varieties, which with their cool, smooth look emphasize the modern character of silver accents. It's also worth pairing them with soft fabrics such as velvet curtains or upholstery in deep colors such as navy blue, burgundy or emerald. This will give us a space where luxury and elegance will intertwine with coziness. Inherent in such interiors are also accessories that complete the composition. Crystal chandeliers, mirrors in richly decorated frames and decorative details of brass or gold, perfectly contrast with the cool glow of silver, while emphasizing the unique character of the arrangement. In modern interiors, where minimalist forms reign, silver-plated furniture should be combined with smoky glass and matte black. This will give the space dynamics and a note of glamour aesthetics. Also, natural wood, especially in versions with a warm shade, is a perfect background for silver accents. This juxtaposition brings harmony between tradition and modernity, creating a unique interior atmosphere. In such compositions it is worth betting on designer accessories that will emphasize the artistic character of the entire arrangement. For example, handmade vases or original sculptures will be perfect.
