Modern living room and kitchen of couple of athlethes

30 of March '23

The apartment belongs to a married couple of rowers - multiple winners of cups and medals, including Olympic ones! The building refers to the tradition of Warsaw modernism. The interiors of their 78-square-meter apartment perfectly blend with this aesthetic. The design of the arrangement was prepared by PRW Design studio.

Spacious living room

The living area occupies almost half of the apartment's square footage, and seems even more spacious.

- Our most important task was to maximize the potential of this part of the apartment. The owners wanted the living room to be spacious, full of light and at the same time modern cozy - says Katarzyna Skonieczko of PRW Design studio, the main designer.

The wall originally dividing the living room and kitchen disappeared, which created a room of as much as 35 sqm. The rest is a matter of appropriate arrangement.

- We directed the rest zone towards the kitchen, and subordinated the whole thing to the convenience of using the projector - says the designer.

The projector itself appeared here at the express request of the owner, who in this way wanted primarily to save the space usually taken up by the TV set. However, no space was spared for the sofa. Thus, the living room is dominated by a comfortable, deeply quilted sofa with velour upholstery in deep green. It is accompanied by light, openwork coffee tables, set on a modern, flat-woven carpet with a zigzag pattern.

An interesting element of the living room is the open bookcase that fills the wall behind the sofa. It consists of a regular grid of square "grids" with two exceptions. At the bottom of it is a niche for the sofa, while at the top, a narrow and long space for a wooden paddle. It is a treasured souvenir of the owners championship struggles and sports friendships. The golden French herringbone on the floor warms the interior and adds a timeless elegance to the simple, modern arrangement. The wall opposite the bookcase was lined with large-format mirrors.

The kitchenette is small, but fully functional. It was kept in black and white.

- The achromatic space harmonizes with the other parts of the apartment. It marks its separateness, but also  shows a strong connection with them - emphasizes Katarzyna Skonieczko of PRW Design.

The boundary of the kitchen zone was symbolically outlined by the use of a strip of dark rhomboidal tiles, contrasting with the golden stave. Higher up, above the countertop, elongated-shaped tiles appeared in turn. Both of these geometric themes enliven the kitchen's minimalism. The cubic solids of the built-in and its deep matte are strikingly contrasted by a retro refrigerator in glossy black lacquer.

- This design classic has always been my wife's dream, and it also became the starting point in the design of the kitchenette -  says the owner.

Also worth noting is the Vertigo lamp, which hangs over the dining table. All components of this arrangement are united by a light, openwork, linear form and black color.
