"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...".This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Monika Nienartowicz Masciarelli of Home Stories studio talks about her approach to design.

Monika Nienartowicz Masciarelli - interior designer, founder of Home Stories studio. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in interior design and art history at the University of Gdansk. She gained professional experience in studios in Poland and Italy. She enjoys evenings with good wine and a book. She is passionate about gardening and European art of the 1930s. On a daily basis, she divides her life between her home in Poland and Italy.

1 Home is for me...

A place to which I return. My safe haven.

2.The key to a successful interior design is....

Conversation and understanding the needs of the investor. Each interior design should be approached individually. Each of us has different needs, both functional and aesthetic. Something that is ideal for us will not necessarily be so for someone else.

3 I look for inspiration....

In everyday life. Both in Poland during a walk in a fragrant green forest, and between narrow Italian streets.

4. In cooperation with an investor, the most important thing is...

The most important thing is communication with both the investor and the contractor. The designer, investor and contractor are an inseparable trio and the basis when renovating and finishing interiors.

5 My favorite design style is.

If I had to choose, it would be an eclectic style with an emphasis on elements and solutions found in Mediterranean interiors. I like warm, cozy interiors filled with natural materials, nibbled by the teeth of time. Plus art and vintage elements.

6 The most important object in my home is....

A 19th century table we found at an antique market in Tuscany, our library with a collection of old books, family heirlooms and photos play a special role in our home. The most valuable objects for me are those that accompany us, telling the story of our lives.

7 The most common mistake in interior design on your own is.

Lack of consistency and looking at the interior in a broader context. Each room gives the impression of being from a different world. This is compounded by poor quality finishing materials and too much attachment to solutions that are often commonly considered functional, while they do not fit into our lifestyle.

8 My favorite material is.

I love all natural materials, but my favorite is definitely marble. It is absolutely timeless, and each piece is unique. I am very happy to see that it is becoming more and more popular in interior design lately.

9 A trend that I wish would pass away already is.

Trends have a way of passing and then coming back. I think we can find something interesting in each of them, while I am not a fan of subjecting an interior to one particular trend. The beauty is in the diversity.

10 I would like, someday to live in....

In an old Italian casale in Umbria. My dream is a stone house with green shutters and a garden where figs, pomegranates and citrus trees grow.
