Williamson Williamson Inc.

Williamson Williamson (WWInc.) is an award-winning, internationally recognized architectural studio founded by Betsy and Shane Williamson in Toronto. The studio focuses on residential projects and private institutional buildings, complemented by a carefully selected body of work in commercial architecture, exhibitions, furniture and speculative projects. Their work is characterized by precision, craftsmanship and design excellence at all scales and budgets, with a strong emphasis on close collaboration with clients, consultants and contractors.

Multigenerational living arrangements have become one of the studio's main areas of focus, in response to both the pricing pressures in downtown Toronto and changing family living patterns. The designed homes are easily adaptable, supporting diverse and changing living arrangements and taking advantage of the potential for gentle intensification inherent in the urban fabric. In parallel, the studio works with partners in the affordable housing sector to take these principles of flexibility, density and social responsibility beyond the scale of the single-family home.

The partners have strong ties to both professional practice and academia. Betsy serves as vice chair of the Waterfront Design Review Panel and is a co-founder of Building Equality in Architecture (BEA). Shane is an associate professor with a permanent appointment and former director of the Master of Architecture program in the Daniels Faculty at the University of Toronto. Both are members of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

WWInc.'s work has been widely published and exhibited around the world. Recent honors include the Governor General's Medal for Garden Laneway House and numerous awards from the OAA, RAIC, Canadian Architect, Architect Magazine and others, including the Professional Prix de Rome for Architecture and the Emerging Voices Award from the Architectural League of New York.
