Everything you would like to know about architectural education, but are afraid to ask....

"Everything you'd like to know about architectural education, but are afraid to ask" - is the theme with which we open another 2019 year. By the way, did you know that this is the twenty-seventh year of A&B's existence? Pride is intertwined with disbelief that we have raised and educated a generation of Readers. A&B has always had an educational mission written into its charter - to this end, almost a decade ago, we created the A&B ACADEMY, in which we organize lectures, meetings, workshops and award the best student diplomas.

But returning to the subject of the issue, on the one hand we have devoted it to the most interesting architectural realizations with an educational function, and on the other - to the problem of architectural education in Poland and abroad. In 1919, that is, exactly one hundred years ago, Walter Gropius established a legendary school in Weimar - Bauhaus, which revolutionized the model of teaching architecture in the world. The method of education based on master classes still finds faithful imitators in state and private universities today. Bauhaus is one hundred years of tradition and modernity at the same time.

So in the January issue of A&B we showed the most interesting architecture faculties in Poland, and from this overview emerges the formalized system of architectural education in our country. We consider what Polish architecture schools teach and what they do not teach. We also wonder if there is a need for a paradigm shift in architectural education from teaching primarily the workshop in design exercises to an education focused on the interdisciplinary and social dimensions of architecture. Finally, we also consider the role of teaching architecture in general education - what are the benefits of this, we all know, looking at Scandinavia, for example.

So we wish you and ourselves a good, thoughtful education in the new year!
