For years, multifamily residential architecture has been balancing between the economics of square meters and the ambition to shape the city. What happens in between—shared spaces, relationships with the street, the neighborhood, the quality of daily life, and good apartment layouts—is architecture’s greatest challenge. Magdalena Milert writes about this.
In this issue, we examine projects that offer diverse answers to the question of how to design apartments and housing developments today. Different places, different strategies, different architectural languages, but a clear common thread: residential architecture here is more than just a forced attempt to meet housing quotas.
