Matharoo Associates

Matharoo Associates is an architectural studio founded in 1992 in Ahmedabad, India, headed by Gurjit Singh Matharoo. Despite its relatively short time in business, the office has won acclaim both in India and abroad for projects that combine technical precision with deep thought about space and light.

The studio is known for its consistent approach to design, in which functionality, simplicity and a balanced use of materials play a key role. Matharoo Associates' designs are characterized by formal restraint and attention to detail - natural, exposed material structures are left almost untouched, with the only ornamentation becoming the changing sunlight throughout the day.

This studio's buildings are designed as spaces to be discovered - as you move through them, they gradually reveal their meanings, spatial relationships and narratives. This is architecture that does not epitomize form, but draws the user into the experience of space through rhythm, light and variation.

The scope of the office goes far beyond classical architecture - it includes structural design, urban masterplans, industrial design and even automotive projects. Interdisciplinarity is an essential part of the studio's approach, which blurs the boundaries between different design disciplines, treating them as a coherent whole.
