On December 15 this year, at the gala ceremony for the awarding of second-cycle diplomas at WA PK, we learned the results of the Diploma of the Year 2023 competition organized by the Faculty of Architecture at Krakow University of Technology. The awards were given to the best master's theses defended in 2023 in the categories:

  • Architecture and Urban Planning,
  • Urban Planning and Spatial Planning,
  • Conservation of Monuments,
  • Landscape Architecture,
  • Special Award - Renewable Energy Sources.

The submitted works were judged by a jury consisting of:

  • Dr. Magdalena Kozień-Woźniak, prof. PK - dean of WA PK, chairwoman of the competition committee,
  • Prof.Justyna Kobylarczyk - vice-dean of WA PK,
  • Prof. Tomasz Kozłowski - vice-dean of WA PK,
  • Dr.Urszula Forczek-Brataniec - vice-dean of WA PK,
  • Dr. Agnieszka Wójtowicz-Wróbel - vice-dean of WA PK,
  • Marek Kaszyński - MPOIA representative.

The secretary of the commission was Dr. Łukasz Stożek, prof. PK.

The commission awarded the Grand Prix, five main prizes and as many as eleven honorable mentions.

Grand Prix and First Prize in the Architecture and Urban Planning category went to Szymon Oszczepalski for his work "Kielce Track. Motorsports Center in Miedziana Góra," made under the direction of Dr. Lukas Patrick Olma.

First Prize in the Urban Planning and Spatial Planning category went to Klaudia Rożek for her thesis "CIĘŻKOWICE. NON-FOSSIL CITY. Concept for developing the area of a former manor complex into a music center," under the direction of Dr. Piotr Langer.

First Prize in the Landscape Architecture category went to Irmina Szostak for her work "Project for the revalorization of the cooperative estate with the Cherry Orchard park in Nowa Huta", made under the direction of Professor Zbigniew Myczkowski.

First Prize in the category of Conservation of Monuments was awarded to Anna Habrat for her work "Meeting Place - Adaptation of the ruins of the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites in Zagórze into a hotel with art studios," done under the direction of Dr. Lukasz Stożek, prof. PK.

Also awarded was the First Prize in the Special Award category - Renewable Energy Sources, which went to Izabela Siwińska for her thesis "Palace of Energy - design of a small modular nuclear power plant". Her supervisor was Dr. Przemysław Bigaj.
