abstract

The aim of the work is to study contemporary eco-trends that occur within urban spaces. The acquired theory is to serve as an inspiration for practical work, that is: designing spaces directly on the confluence of the Rawa River running through the entire
downtown area of Katowice.

The scope of the theoretical part concerns the preparation of a study on the perspective and needs of pedestrians as users in the space in which they live or move, taking into account the relevant parameters, along with an overview of contemporary trends aimed at restoring the city's space to pedestrians, and the ways in which this is done. From there, information related to the expansion of urban spaces within the so-called brown fields, blue areas or green areas within the fourth nature is also included. Special attention was paid to cases that serve as examples of good changes within river spaces for the benefit of users.

In the design part, an urban-architectural design of the space at the confluence of the Rawa River running through the entire downtown of the city of Katowice was made. The project is intended to be a practical example showing the potential that comes from the development of water, post-industrial and post-smelting areas. As part of the project, a stra tegy for the eco-restructuring of downtown Katowice was made, along with a concept for an eco-education center and the Rawa River as a green recreational axis.
