abstract

Glogow is a city with a thousand-year history, which after World War II was one of the most destroyed in Poland. Along with the loss of the urban fabric, there was also a complete replacement of the population from German to Polish nationality. It has been 78 years since the tragic events, but the city is still grappling with the problem of its lost identity. Nowadays, an attempt is being made to revamp the Old Town, but with this architecturally questionable process, the memory of its difficult history is being erased. The diploma project uses the ruins of the former parish church and the tenements of a nearby unreconstructed quarter to create a public space that tells the city's story and restores its identity. The ruins of the church perpetuated as a memorial to the destruction of the war, become part of an urban greenery establishment and a place suitable for concerts. In the nearby quarter along the southern frontage of the Market Square, a multifunctional Glogow History Center has been proposed, with its basement showing the remains of the buildings once located there. Traces of the former buildings can also be found modernly incorporated into the development of the green public space located on the rest of the urban block.
