author's description

City-forming character
The public swimming pool is an important place in the city. It is where people meet, relax, play sports. The city-forming character of this public function is particularly important for the development of the district and the residents' sense of identity. In the design of the Bialoleka Swimming Pool, we wanted to create a public, open, accessible and truly urban place. To achieve this, we took advantage of the advantages of the surroundings, which are: the location along the important Ostródzka Street (opposite a school, next to a church) and the beautiful natural surroundings of the Brzezinski Ditch. The Swimming Pool building and the future City Park are equally important elements of the project. Thanks to this symbiosis - of nature and architecture, the whole establishment, even from a longer perspective, has a chance to become a visible landmark of Bialoleka, as a district developing in a sustainable manner and with respect for the natural environment.

Recreation in contact with nature
The heart of the swimming pool - the swimming pool and sauna area opens scenically to the City Park with its natural existing vegetation and ecosystem. The park-like, tree-lined backdrop is conducive to relaxation and play, creating a space for interaction between residents using the swimming pool. In the project we operate with durable materials such as wood and architectural concrete, which, used in accordance with their purpose and properties, will create a place that is friendly, peaceful and timeless.

A new perspective
The swimming pool building is built by two elements. The first is a lower single-story base 9.6 meters high housing the swimming program, with a cafeteria and offices. The second is a 20-meter-high tower with slides - forming a dominant feature, according to the Site Plan. The lower ground-floor part remains in proper relation with the surrounding buildings and greenery, paths, sidewalks and roads. The higher one, on the other hand, marks the swimming pool in the landscape, constitutes a showpiece of the facility, and acts as a public vantage point from which one can view the developing Bialoleka from a different perspective.

the competition jury's opinion

The Competition Jury awarded the second prize to the work No. 6 for an interesting solution of the body of the building as consciously scaled up to create its city-forming character and for the proper connection of the green area lying in the depth of the plot with Ostródzka Street, as well as interesting interiors of the swimming pool space.
