Tadeusz Barucki is dead

Tadeusz Barucki, an outstanding Polish architect and documentary filmmaker, has died. Author of hundreds of articles, encyclopedic studies and book publications. Extremely distinguished as an ambassador of Polish architecture around the world.

Tadeusz Barucki was born in Bialystok in 1922. He studied mathematics at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, art history at the Catholic University of Lublin and architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology and the Polytechnic Faculties of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow.

Among other things, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Urban Planning and Architecture in Warsaw and as an architect at the State Design Offices. Tadeusz Barucki was also Secretary General of SARP in Warsaw from 1956 to 1961.

In addition to his numerous architectural projects, it is important to recall his journalistic and popularization activities, in which he published several hundred articles in magazines in Poland and abroad, and wrote numerous monographic or synthesizing books on architecture. Tadeusz Barucki was also an avid photographer, documenting architecture from all over the world. He also distinguished himself as co-founder of the Arkisyst architectural information database at UNESCO. In 1985, he was awarded the SARP Honorary Award for disseminating knowledge about architecture. He was also awarded the Gold Medal for "Meritorious Service to Culture Gloria Artis" and the Knight's Cross of the Order of Rebirth of Poland.

On June 23, 2022 the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology and the Institute of Architecture Document ation Silesian Library organized a benefit for Tadeusz Barucki on the occasion of his 100th birthday. During the event, the benefactor gave a lecture entitled "On continuity in architecture." A book dedicated to Tadeusz Barucki, published by the Silesian Library, was also presented.


Tadeusz Barucki also became the protagonist of a film portrait as part of the project
"Film Portraits of Upper Silesian Architects of the Second Half of the 20th Century. Collection." The film, on which we can listen to Tadeusz Barucki, is available online on Youtube.
