DWELLING
Today, most investments in Poland are residential buildings. The boom in this sector has resulted in more and more of them being built. Offices, co-working spaces, on the other hand, are being built much less than before the pandemic, and public investments are scarce. Even single-family homes are being built much less than just a few years ago.
Nevertheless, it is residential architecture, especially multifamily, that is facing a crisis. A crisis of functionality and quality, increasingly evident in the spaces of our cities. The apartment, which was supposed to be everyone's right, is less and less available to the average Polish family.
Housing today is mainly an object of economic speculation. Magdalena Milert (Pieing) in her article "Housing rollercoaster" points out the reasons for this phenomenon. We also ask Polish architects about the diagnosis and possible solutions - is it possible to cure this situation?
DWELLING is also the title of a student competition organized by our editorial board. The settlement is already on the next pages of this issue! We take a hopeful look at future designers who are looking for a way to make better living spaces.
