Renato Rizzi

He graduated in architecture in Venice in 1977. From 1984, he worked with Peter Eisenman in New York for about ten years, before returning to Italy to devote himself to teaching and design. In 1992, he received the Premio Nazionale In/Arch award and in 1999, the gold medal for architecture at the Triennale di Milano for his restoration project of the Casa Museo Depero. In 2003, he won third prize in the competition for the design of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo. In 2011, he received an honorable mention from the Compasso d'oro for the restoration of the Casa Museo Depero.

An associate professor of architectural composition at the Iuav University of Venice, he has lectured at Harvard, Cairo, La Plata, and Auckland. He exhibited his work at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 1984, 1985, 1996, 2002, and 2010. Since 2009, he has been editor of the “Estetica e Architettura” series for Mimesis Edizioni.

From 2005 to 2014, he was involved in the design and construction of the new Shakespeare Theater in Gdańsk (Gdański Teatr Szekspirowski), which opened in September 2014.

In 2017, he received the President of the Republic Award for architecture at the Quirinale, awarded on the recommendation of the Accademia di San Luca.
