purpose

The competition organized by the Institute of Industrial Design is aimed at young designers and designers, and its goal is to identify and reward the creator / creator of the most interesting design project that responds to the assumptions of all aspects of sustainable design.

This year the organizers are waiting for projects that are made in the trend of responsible design, based on the use of activities:

• Redesign,
• Reuse,
• Redefinition,
• Reinvention and ReThink,
• Upcycling.

As the contest's website reads—"REsponsibility is not just a responsibility. It's a chance to explore, redefine and reinvent design. It's an opportunity for your project to become a manifesto for new directions in design, pushing the boundaries of conventional thinking. We are looking for projects that boldly comment on reality, respond to the changing world and open up new possibilities—from design products, concepts for services and applications that work together with the product, to a change in thinking about the product, its cycle of use and new materials, offering yet undiscovered possibilities.

Participants in the competition have the opportunity to meet directly with representatives of Polish business, art and culture who make up the Scholarship Chapter. During the presentation, designers not only present a design, but also have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and competencies necessary to work with future employers. The presentation and ability to justify the design is one of the criteria for evaluating finalists.

terms and conditions

The competition for the Prof. Wanda Telakowska scholarship is open to male and female students:

• first and second degree studies, studying at state and non-state, Polish art and technical universities educating in the field of design, graphics, painting, architecture,
• uniform master's degree studies at state and non-state, Polish universities of art and technology teaching in the field of design, graphic design, painting, architecture,
• graduates and graduates of state and non-state universities, Polish artistic and technical universities educating in the direction of design, graphic design, painting, architecture, who will not be 30 years old by December 31, 2024,
• teams ofdesigners with a maximum number of two people.

The condition for participation in the competition is to complete and send the application form and submit the project by April 3, 2024.

The form must be accompanied by:

• a scan of the diploma—in the case of graduates,
• a scan of a student ID card—in the case of students,
• CV,
• aproject related to the main theme saved in electronic form,
• project description in pdf format (in Polish and English),
• presentation (in Polish and English) in the form of up to 10 slides in pdf format
• for service/application projects—in addition, a presentation in the form of a video/recording, a link of up to 3 minutes.

Participants are required to include the following elements in the electronic version of the project:

• a project related to the main theme saved in electronic form, in PDF format (may include up to four images of a given product: two drawings, sketches or, renderings and two photos of the prototype or product),
• a description of the project including: the name of the project/product, technical parameters of the product, indication of the function of the product with a description of the purpose, materials used, indication of possible production technologies,
• additional information relevant to the project.

The contest prohibits participants from using visuals that have been generated by artificial intelligence (AI) or similar technologies. Participants agree to submit only works created independently, without using AI-based tools to generate graphics, illustrations or other visual forms.

From the submissions, the organizers will select 10 finalists, who will then present their works before the Scholarship Committee.

Evaluation criteria:

• compliance with the rules of the competition,
• the way the competition project is presented, clarity of concept (the competition project should show the form, functionality of the product in an understandable way, and the description should contain clear and understandable information),
• originality, innovation (the project should be characterized by originality and present new, unconventional solutions, with the potential for future use),
• accuracy of implementation, idea, evaluation of the design problem, use of materials, the process of project development should respond to the problem of responsible design,
• aesthetic qualities, visual appeal,
• online presentation before the scholarship chapter and the ability to justify the idea of the product or service design.

• final deadline for submission of projects—April 3, 2024,
• deliberations of the organizer's expert panel, selection of 10 finalists—until April 8, 2024,
• notification of qualification for the finals—April 8, 2024,
• finalistpresentations before the Scholarship Chapter online—April 10, 2024,
• announcement of finalists and presentation of awards during a ceremony at the headquarters of the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw—April 25, 2024,
• post-competition exhibition—from April 26 to May 31, 2024.

prizes

The competition provides for a prize—the Prof. Wanda Telakowska Scholarship in the amount of PLN 20,000 gross, less lump-sum income tax, to finance the chosen form of acquiring knowledge and professional experience, including investment in work tools. The decision on the use of the scholarship will be made by the winner / laureate in consultation with the organizer.

Finalists and the winner / laureate of the competition will receive the emblem „Finalist Young Design 2024 / Winner Young Design 2024” with a free, perpetual and territorially unlimited license to use it.
