Results of the 20th Annual Competition for the Best Public Space Design

descriptionDuring the Polish Urban Planning Congress in Gliwice in September 2026, the results of the 20th edition of the Polish Society of Urban Planners’ competition for the best-designed public space in Poland were announced.
The goal of the competition, which has been held since 2007, is to promote the best projects in the field of public space. Awards are given to spaces with high social value (those that integrate local communities and improve residents’ quality of life), as well as to revitalized spaces adjacent to historic buildings and projects that highlight the natural and landscape qualities of a given area. Projects completed and put into use by the end of the year preceding a given edition of the competition were eligible for submission.
This year, the competition jury consisted of:

- Andrzej Budek — Representative of the Association of Applied Graphic Designers
From among more than forty public spaces that qualified for the second stage of the competition, the jury selected the nine best entries and awarded six honorary prizes and three honorable mentions.
In the “Revitalized Urban Public Space” category, the First Prize went to the “Ceramic Revitalization of the Old Town Square in Bolesławiec” (designers: Municipality of Bolesławiec, Mateusz Grobelny, Andrzej Pachom), Second Prize went to “Piaseczno for People and Bicycles: Integrated Revitalization of the Historic Center—Puławska Street, Kościuszko–Sienkiewicz Square, and the Park Area Around Poniatówka” (designers: Piotr Czyronis, Emil Syrko, Mariusz Borzym, Dorota Pape), and an honorable mention — the entrance area to the Old Town Promenade near the monument to Bolesław Chrobry in Wrocław (design: Krzysztof Cebrat, Anna Bać, Łukasz Dworniczak).
In the category of “Revitalized Urban Public Space of a Historic Site,”
the award went to the development and opening to the public of the early-medieval Grodzisko in Stradów, in the municipality of Czarnocin (designers: Marcin Brataniec, Urszula Forczek-Brataniec, Marek Bystroń, Aleksandra Irzyk).
In the “Waterfront Public Space” category, the award went to the pedestrian and bicycle bridges over the Warta and Cybina rivers in Poznań (design: SKI STUDIO Błażej Szurkowski, ARPA—Jerzy Gurawski’s Architectural Studio, MS86A—Maciej Sokolnicki) received awards, while the Sailing Marina in Paprocany (Marina II) in Tychy (designed by RS+—Robert Skitek) received an honorable mention.
In the Newly Created Public Green Space category, the award went to Żerański Park in Warsaw (design: Archigrest, topoScape) and the youth skatepark in Kraków — Prądnicka across from Zbożowa Street (design: Marlena Pilch PRO ARCHITEKTURA, Maciej Bobowski).
In the “Revitalized Public Space in Green Areas” category, the award went to Kręgielny Trakt in the Stołowe Mountains National Park (design: Michał Michaś, Mirosław Strzelecki, Alicja Maciejko).
