On March 3, 2025, during a gala ceremony in Opole, the results of the 3rd edition of the competition for the best diploma made in architectural studies in the Opole region were announced. The competition, organized by the Association of Polish Architects (SARP) Opole Branch and the Opole Regional Chamber of Architects, aimed to recognize the most interesting and innovative diploma projects in the Engineering Diploma and Master's Diploma categories.

The jury, chaired by Dr. Andrzej Duda, deliberated as follows:

  • Małgorzata Adamowicz-Nowacka (President of SARP Opole),
  • Jakub Tomiczek (Chairman of the Opole Regional Chamber of Architects),
  • Marek Nowacki (Chairman of the SARP Opole Competition Judges' College),
  • Piotr Wachułka (SARP Opole),
  • Kamil Lipski (Secretary of the Competition).

The competition appreciated both the ability to take a creative approach to design and the ability to present their concepts. After evaluating the submitted works, prizes and honorable mentions were awarded in two categories: Engineering Diploma Works and Master's Diploma Works.

The first prize in the Engineering Diploma Thesis category was awarded to Karolina Żak ("Conceptual design of the adaptation of the former glassworks building in Stronie Śląskie to museum function") for the correctly adopted design strategy, preservation of the spatial value of the hall interior despite the introduction of a mezzanine at the level of the second floor, and the decision to place auxiliary rooms in the extended wings referring to the historical building complex. Also noteworthy was the excellent author's presentation of the project.

Honorable mention in this category went to Victor Bogdol ("Design of a restaurant with a hotel part on Kozielska Island").

In the category of Master's Thesis, the winner was Wiktoria Maciejewska ("Design of a shelter in a basin in the Jizera Mountains") for applying elements of Kenneth Frampton's theory of critical regionalism to the design practice, referring to the tradition of the place by carefully developing the old forms of buildings with the use of new materials and details. Also noteworthy were the solutions integrating the ruins with new functional elements. A special mention was also given to the presentation of the project, which was a model for the participants of the competition.

Honorable mention in this category went to: Karolina Richter-Kasprzyk ("Design of a museum and educational center with adaptation of the buildings of the manor complex in Świercz") and Dominik Puchałka ("Conceptual design for the revitalization of the Super Unit in Katowice").

This year's edition of the competition once again showed the high design level and innovation of young architects and female architects, and the awarded works can become an inspiration for the next generation of architecture students.
