How to accelerate the green revolution in construction?

31 of January '24

The climate goals set by the European Union are ambitious! Construction plays a key role in achieving them.

Not surprisingly, sustainable construction is an important topic today. It's a direction through which we will reduce carbon emissions, as well as contribute to the health and well-being of people.

Awareness of the green revolution is growing in Poland. So how are we going about achieving climate goals in the construction industry? Among other things, this was discussed by experts at 4 Design Days - an annual event for architects, designers and construction market specialists in Katowice.

At the end of 2023, negotiations related to the amendment of the Directive on Energy Efficiency of Buildings were completed. According to it, from 2030 all new buildings constructed in the EU will have to meet the zero-emission condition. By 2050, existing stock will also have to be remodeled to meet the zero-emission criterion.

This is a challenge that will be difficult to meet in Poland, according to Pawel Kisiel, president of ATLAS Group.

According to a study by UCE Research and Studio4Space (2023), more than one-third of Poles would be willing to incur higher costs to purchase an apartment made of green materials. Unfortunately, those who are most affected by the problem of non-environmental buildings will not be able to afford the change.

Opportunities would be increased by state programs, according to Chairman Kisiel.

Manufacturers of building materials also face a challenge. Eco products are appearing on the market. However, they are more expensive. How to convince contractors to purchase them?
