CEMEX Poland seminar: The road to climate neutrality

20 of September '22

More than 150 people attended a seminar organized by CEMEX Poland in conjunction with the Association of Cement Manufacturers. The meeting discussed sustainable construction and key issues from the perspective of the construction industry.

Speakers included representatives from academia and business, architects and industry organizations. The event is part of CEMEX's global "Future in Action" strategy, which aims to reduceCO2 emissions at the company's facilities.

CEMEX Poland periodically organizes conferences and seminars for customers on current challenges of the construction industry. The theme of this year's event, held at Warsaw's InterContinental Hotel, was "green construction."

The company's clients present at the conference listened to speeches by experts. Among the speakers was Professor Jerzy Buzek, Member of the European Parliament, who, during a video speech, emphasized the role of the construction sector in the European road to climate neutrality. Professor Jan Deja, representing the AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow and the Association of Cement Producers, spoke in turn about how cement and concrete production technology is evolving towards climate neutrality. SARP President Agnieszka Kalinowska-Sołtys spoke about the importance of the construction industry's role in reducingCO2 emissions.

Piotr Górak, Technical Advisory Manager of CEMEX Poland, introduced the seminar participants to CEMEX's climate neutrality activities, carried out as part of the global "Future in Action" strategy. Guests at the event also learned details of the next edition of the "Create a Green Future with CEMEX" competition, under which CEMEX Poland seeks new, environmentally friendly solutions for the cement, concrete and aggregate industries. Professor Andrzej Garbacz of the Warsaw University of Technology, a member of the competition's Chapter, spoke about this initiative, aimed at the academic community.

Guests at the event listened to speeches by experts representing the Association of Polish Architects and the European Cement Industry Association CEMBUREAU. Representatives of KROE and architectural studio 3XA spoke about the roles that investors, architects and designers play in sustainable construction.

The final highlight of the seminar was a debate, the participants of which tried to answer the question whether green building is a fashion or a necessity.

In the era of advancing climate change, we need new "green" solutions. Seminars and conferences attended by experts involved in work at various stages of construction projects provide an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and share knowledge about sustainable products and services. Thus, they contribute to the promotion of sustainable construction in Poland," says Rafał Gajewski, Director of the Commercial Division, Member of the Management Board at CEMEX Poland.

CEMEX for the climate

The seminar on sustainable construction is one of the many activities undertaken by CEMEX in connection with the implementation of its global "Future in Action" strategy. Its goal is to combat climate change by, among other things, reducing carbon dioxide emissions at production facilities. By adopting the aforementioned strategy, CEMEX has committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

In implementing the "Future in Action" strategy, CEMEX is also expanding its range of low-carbon products. Cements, concretes and admixtures from the Vertua® line, which help reduce the carbon footprint of ongoing investments, are already available on the Polish market.
