Atelier XÜK

Atelier XÜK was founded in 2010 in Shanghai by Kenan Liu and Xū Zhāng, who were both year classmates at Tongji University. Kenan Liu earned a master's degree from Tongji University and worked in the architectural office of Herzog & de Meuron in Switzerland. Xu Zhang received his master's degree from ETH and worked at Buchner Bründler Architects in Switzerland. Currently, Kenan Liu is a design lecturer at Tongji University, and Xu Zhang teaches at Southeastern University.

By selecting and combining different types of construction in specific contexts, Atelier XÜK enhances the features of a place and creates space.

For Atelier XÜK, "types of construction" are not just a matter of creating objects or producing space, and "features of place" are not just a matter of introducing or excluding certain landscapes in the here and now. Under specific conditions, Atelier XÜK explores and combines these two issues in the context of transforming daily lives in the processes of regional urbanization and the collective memories of the people who participate in the creation and use of this space.
