purpose

The purpose of the competition, as we read in the regulations, is to select the best works that will receive the highest number of points according to the accepted evaluation criteria. The task of the competition is to prepare a design concept, the aim of which is to create a modern, friendly and fully accessible space in accordance with current standards for the design of public spaces. The study should take into account the current technical condition, the existing functional-spatial structure, the needs of users and the development directions of the institution.
The final goal of the study is to provide the ordering party with a complete, functional, feasible and visually appealing concept for the modernization of the main hall, which will optimally combine aesthetic, functional and technical qualities and comply with contemporary standards for the design of public spaces - museum and user services.

The competition is a one-stage, open competition.

The subject of the competition is to develop a design for the modernization of the main hall in the Duża Dąbrowa granary, the headquarters of the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk. Located on the first floor, it is a space that connects the exhibition and storage areas in the Granaries: Panna, Miedź, Oliwski and the administrative zone located in Mała and Duża Dabrowa. The main entrance hall of the museum serves as a welcoming space for visitors and interested parties, an orientation and information center, a place to purchase tickets, publications and souvenirs in the museum store, providing a smooth distribution of traffic to further parts of the building, including the permanent exhibition. The main entrance to the museum's headquarters, in the form of a vestibule, is located on the side of Olowianka Street.

The planned modernization will primarily cover areas of change:

  • Main hall
  • Public checkroom
  • Museum shop/ticket office
  • Windbreak/main entrance from Olowianka Street
  • Security room
  • Rest area no. 1
  • Toilets
  • Visual identification system of the main hall space

prizes

  • First Prize - PLN 20,000 gross and an invitation to negotiate a contract for the execution of the design documentation, concerning the acquisition by the contracting authority of the author's economic rights and the exercise of author's supervision
  • II Prize - PLN 7,000 gross
  • III Prize - PLN 3,000 gross
