A one-stage competition for the development of an architectural and construction concept for the Municipal House of Culture in Mikolow, together with the development of the adjacent area, the necessary technical infrastructure and information containing preliminary, technical, technological and cost solutions, was settled on February 21.

According to the competition, the new building should be functional, visually attractive, as well as environmentally friendly. The competition proposal also had to take into account conservation recommendations.

The competition jury, chaired by Wojciech Klass and composed of Andrzej Gortel, Daniel Mlicki, Slawomir Wrzesień and Marcin Stokłosa, selected and awarded three of the sixteen entries. The first prize went to a proposal by architect Magdalena Jagoda from Katowice, the second to a project by the GIGA Architects team from Mikolow, and the third to PRAZA architects from Dabrowa Gornicza.

The competition is not an implementation one - on the basis of those selected by the court, it will be possible to create a solution for the future MDK headquarters. As the organizers emphasize, the Authority is already preparing documentation so that as soon as such an opportunity arises it can apply for external funding for the construction of the building.
