Atrial houses in Poznań? Yes! Meet the unusual house on the Zodiak estate

14 of October '20

Natalia and Bartosz Guss have moved into a house designed by her father Marian Urbanski. The one-story house was built from ... large slabs. The house underwent renovation and thermal modernization. It gained a new gray color, but, as the residents assure, the lump and its character have been completely preserved.
See how the residents talk about the house, its nooks and crannies and life in an atrial house located in the center of Poznań.

"A terraced house on a unique housing estate built with atrial houses, which are atypical for Poznań and Poland - rather typical for Mediterranean countries. This is the only such estate in the city - designed at the end of the 1970s by a team of architects from Miastoprojekt creating at that time in the neighborhood of the upper "terrace" estates of the Rataje district. The uniqueness of the Zodiac houses also lies in the material from which they were made. The Housing Cooperative "Osiedle Młodych", which is building them, has here partly used the large slab used to build Rataje housing estates. Functional apartments arranged around an inner garden are still enjoyed by users, including the family of Marian Urbanski, an architect, member of the aforementioned team from Miastoprojekt and co-author of the atrial set-up," - reads a commentary by the series' curators.

Marian URBAŃSKI - studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic University, defended his diploma in 1971. He was a member of the Miastorprojekt team in Wroclaw (1971-1974) and Poznan (1974-1989). In 1989 he founded the Author's Architecture Studio ATRIUM ATRIUM ASA. He is the author of projects in the Rataje residential district in Poznań, Dobrzec housing estates in Kalisz and Przylesie in Leszno, among others. In 1983-86 he worked in Lagos, Nigeria, among others, on the University of Benin project. He is a member of the Council of the Wielkopolska District Chamber of Architects and a member of SARP.

The film was made as part of the New Plan Festival, which took place in Poznań from 8-14.10.2020. The theme of this year's edition is "Home."
A&B is a media patron of the event.
