"Leakage" - a new exhibition in Wroclaw Hydropolis

22 of June '20

At Hydropolis, the Mom Project collective has created an exhibition for the youngest devoted to water, and more specifically to its dwindling resources. However, the exhibition can also be instructive for adults - the curators go back to the "roots" of ecological behavior. Our daily habits have a real impact on ecology. Architects from BUDCUD studio are responsible for the exhibition design.

Can design give tools for interesting and realistically engaging educational activities for the climate? Good quality materials supporting the main idea of the exhibition, aesthetic and precise messages created for young audiences, and the whole arranged within the framework of the new rules of operation in public spaces. All these aspects were brought together by the realization of the exhibition for families "Leak", the latest production of the Mom Project collective for Hydropolis in Wroclaw. The project addresses issues related to dwindling water resources.

Creating exhibitions for children is never easy. What we care about is that the whole creates a coherent story. This way it is easier to navigate the exhibition and understand its content. In "Leakage" we wanted to explain difficult ecological topics using examples of our daily habits, so that everyone could compare them with their own experience," says Joanna Studzińska of the collective Mamy Projekt, co-curator of the exhibition.

"Leakage" is, on the one hand, a story about climate change, the problem of dwindling water resources, their pollution or overexploitation by man. On the other hand, it is a demonstration of ready-made solutions and proposals for action that everyone can implement in their own homes. The architects of the exhibition from the BUDCUD studio emphasize that their goal was to create an arrangement that is not only visually attractive, but also complements the content.

We were very keen that the materials and colors used should reinforce the communication of the exhibition theme, while at the same time we paid attention to simple means in creating an interactive, engaging exhibition space," says Agata Wozniczka, exhibition architect.

A considerable challenge proved to be the recently introduced rules for operating in public places and the increased attention to security issues. The arrangers of the exhibition succeeded in creating a space where whole families will feel comfortable and safe. Thanks to the appropriate architecture, the exhibition can also be visited without touching individual elements, which, however, have been designed to stimulate the imagination of viewers. Three-dimensional design elements, light play, foot-moving interactive installations or the design of places for family photos and selfies complement the substantive content conveyed by infographics.

The exhibition shows that taking care of the world should start with the simplest actions that depend directly on us, hence in the space we will find both a kitchen or bathroom area with specific tips on saving water, as well as an installation that allows us to think about what steps we can take to protect water resources," explains Malgorzata Zmijska of the collective Mamy Projekt.

The exhibition can be viewed until the end of October 2020.
