A few weeks ago we reported on who will design the Central Communication Port. Norman Foster 's studio, working with Buro Happold, won the tender, which took the form of a competitive dialogue. Other global studios such as Zaha Hadid Architects, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Luis Vidal y Asociad, Dar Al.-Handasah and Perkins and Will participated in the competition.

The winner was selected through a competitive dialogue process. Part of it was a design workshop, during which the candidates could present their vision of the CPK project. However, the real challenge begins only now. Together with world architects, we will develop the final design for the most important element of Poland's transportation system. This is a unique moment - Mikołaj Wild, president of the Central Communication Port company

The Foster + Partners studio has designed London's Stansted airport, Queen Alia Airport in Jordan (in cooperation with Buro Happold) and Beijing's main airport, among others. CPK is expected to be the next major project by the office.

We are extremely proud to have been selected by CPK as Master Architect, and believe that our collaboration will develop a design that will create a center for a fully integrated transportation system. We believe this project will revolutionize travel across the country and beyond. The vision of the woven architectural form is consciously and strongly expressed. It can shape the airport building and guide passengers through its interiors, while serving as a powerful symbolic reference to Poland's rich cultural heritage and the strength of its united nation," says Grant Brooker (Foster+Partners).

what do we know new?

The CPK office has published the value of the contract, which is expected to net PLN 696 million. The vague date has not changed - the presentation of the conceptual design for the key CPK facilities is to be ready in mid-2023. According to the CPK press office, the potential for using modules and prefabricated elements will be maximized, allowing the transportation hub to adapt to ever-changing needs.

What's new is the release of new concepts for the port's design, which shows the transfer terminal and passenger service area. It differs from what was presented before. The press material reads of an interior that is filled with lush greenery and natural light. The difference between the earlier visualizations can be seen primarily in the solution of the roof, reminiscent of wicker weaves, similar to the solutions of the Polish pavilion at EXPO 2005 (designed by Ingarden&Èwy). The final shape of the project is expected to be known in mid-2023.
