"Green" production of radiators in Rybnik

10 of November '23

When the Purmo brand of panel radiators appeared on the Polish market in 1992, it completely changed the market for heating solutions in our country. Why? This company, owned by an international concern with Finnish roots, sold a record number of more than 17 million panel radiators on the Polish market for 30 years.

Statistically, this means that in every Polish home there is at least one Purmo radiator. Most of them come from the corporation's largest and most modern factory located in Rybnik, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Another new production hall was opened in March, which will increase the plant's production capacity as early as next year.

Poland is one of the most important and developed markets for the Purmo Group. Therefore, already after the first year of activity in our country, a strategic decision was made to build a new Purmo factory in Rybnik. It started producing panel radiators in 1993 and quickly became the largest and most modern production plant of the concern. At present, four production lines operated by experienced staff and state-of-the-art robots operate in this largest, most efficient, continuously modernized factory in Europe, and every year more than 2 million radiators from Rybnik are shipped around the world. The factory's management is constantly working on increasing the efficiency of production which translates into out-of-the-ordinary results, for example, in 2017 as many as 2.7 million radiators were produced! Currently, the factory employs nearly 500 people and is one of the largest employers in Rybnik. At the beginning of March 2023, a new production hall was officially opened, where assembly work on the so-called "hybrid line" is nearing completion - it will be a line capable of producing both vertical and horizontal radiator models. Due to the increase in the scale of production, an increase in employment by several dozen people is planned. According to plans, the new line will begin production in the first quarter of 2024.

Green production

In 2017, the management of the Rybnik factory was taken over by a new director - Barbara Katychów, who has been associated with the plant for 20 years, and in just one year production reached a record level - as many as 2.7 million radiators per year! "In any process, the most important thing for me is ... people. The success that we achieve in the Rybnik production plant that I manage is possible primarily thanks to the team of specialists who work with full commitment for the success of the Purmo brand. The opening of the new production hall was possible thanks to extremely effective teamwork between all departments of our factory. Some of the people who symbolically cut the ribbon have been working in our factory since the very beginning - that is, for 30 years! Thanks to such a team of high-class specialists at the Rybnik factory, we are constantly improving our processes, keeping in mind the ecology of the entire production cycle, which has become our passion." - concludes Barbara Katychów.

Purmo, which for many years has paid very close attention to aspects related to ecology and sustainability, already at the production stage the company reaches for solutions that strive to maintain climate neutrality and reduce the carbon footprint. Beginning with the conscious selection of raw materials through production upgrades to packaging modifications and logistics solutions. All steel radiators manufactured in Rybnik are durable and 100 percent recyclable after use. In the future, meanwhile, the company intends to use so-called green steel - made with hydrogen instead of coal and coke. Such steel is already being produced in Scandinavia. Purmo also uses recycled brass with low lead content, and the products have eco-friendly, recyclable packaging. In addition, the Rybnik factory has had its own water purification plant used in production and a particulate filter for years. Lines are constantly modernized not only for efficiency and quality, but also for energy savings. At each stage of production, heat generated during production is recovered, which is later used to heat the factory halls. The Rybnik production plant has been certified for years to meet standards in environmental management ISO 14001 and quality ISO 9001, and is currently the largest, most efficient and most modern radiator factory in the Purmo corporation and in Europe.
