Ecology
This issue grows out of a simple but uncomfortable question: why has ecology, like sustainability, still not become an obvious standard in the design of architecture and urban spaces?
Seeking an answer, we look at practices that choose to work with what already exists instead of multiplying new forms. We talk to Anne Lacaton of the Lacaton & Vassal studio, who has shown for years that architecture is also about working carefully with already existing matter. In this perspective, ecology ceases to be an add-on and becomes the starting point. It does not come down to certificates or technology, but is about the relationship with the existing fabric.
This is why we ask architects one question: should we build less? It stems from a growing sense that architecture as we know it needs to rethink its own foundations.
This issue is an invitation to that conversation.
