An elegant stop in the design metropolis of Milan: Artemide illuminates the Lufthansa lounge at Malpensa Airport

10 of January '23

A special spot for travelers interested in design has been created at Milan Malpensa Airport, the largest airport in the northern Italian metropolis. The Lufthansa lounge, designed by Kitzig Interior Design, impresses with its elegance and individual lighting concept developed by Artemide.

The Lufthansa lounge moved last year to larger rooms in the departure area of Terminal 1 lostnika in Milan. Interior architects from Kitzig Interior Design, based in Lippstadt, Bochum, Munich and Düsseldorf, realized the new, exclusive design concept in an area of 550 square meters. This trend-setting project is the next stage in the development of Lufthansa brand lounge design. One of the main goals of the interior designers was to create an atmosphere conducive to well-being and relaxation in the midst of hectic tourist traffic at the airport. The spacious, open space offers a variety of places to relax, eat and drink, as well as work in silence and concentration. Light plays a decisive role in the design of the various usable areas. With designer lamps and intelligent lighting systems from Artemide, it was possible to create the right lighting moods - from warm white, subdued lighting for a cozy atmosphere in the lounge, to invigorating, stimulating light in modern work areas.

In the entrance area, a Dedalo light line with a flexible profile and high-performance LEDs highlights the yellow portal frame. Elongated floor and ceiling lamps from the Algoritmo product family greet visitors and point the way to the Lufthansa waiting area. The light strips allude to Milan's fashion runways, but also to the airport itself and the runways. With different light emissions, Algoritmo offers maximum flexibility and makes light an integral part of the architecture. In the Lufthansa waiting area, in addition to indirect light, focused light was used in the Algoritmo Sharping variant. Expressive light is also created in combination with the LED 37 Cube spotlight, giving high quality illumination, extremely small dimensions and unparalleled swiveling and tilting capabilities. Algoritmo emphasizes an environmentally friendly design concept with low material and energy consumption.

The high-efficiency LEDs used in the Parabola 80 spotlights also fit in with the sustainability concept and provide pleasant illumination. The Empatia pendant lamp clusters create a homey atmosphere in seating and relaxation areas. Empatia combines the artistry of blown glass with innovative LED technology. The product family was created in collaboration with masters of Venetian glass art and impresses with a clear yet emotional design language and an almost magical lighting effect. The pendant lamps of the Tagora family, with their minimalist design, fit perfectly into the lighting concept with their high luminous flux and low energy consumption.

Lufthansa's new airport lounge concept also includes references to the region, which are clearly visible in every area, from the food and beverage to the interior design. Visitors to the lounges are supposed to notice immediately that they have found themselves in the Italian city of fashion and design - Milan. This is guaranteed by pasta dishes freshly prepared in the show kitchen, espresso from a barista and historical maps of the city adorning the various wall surfaces. Italian lamps by Artemide, which skillfully combine aspects of design, architecture and lifestyle, fit perfectly into this overall concept.
