"10 Questions for Landscape Architects" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions for...". This time our attention is turned to architects and landscape architects. In today's episode, Nina Klejnowska-Matacz (Garden&Pleasure) talks about her approach to design.

1 Landscape Architecture in one sentence is ....

... my education, work and passion - not the only one, but to which I currently devote most of my time.

2. The most underrated aspect of landscape architecture is...

... sound. Sound space is practically non-existent in the consciousness of designers. We design with our eyes, relegating other senses to the background. A long time ago, I wrote a thesis on this, which is still - or perhaps increasingly - on point. Nowadays, I notice that this is changing a bit, we talk about noise pollution, sensory gardens, also in the context of sound in the landscape, but still, it is often understood as introducing "musical toys" into the designed space, rather than creating a landscape also in terms of sound.

3. the most inspiring space for you is ....

... professionally - any space to design, which is the subject of my work. Because each carries extraordinary potential.

Privately - the forest, the meadow, the sea.... nature surrounding us.

4. the most important book related to landscape architecture is ....

... "Dendrology" by Włodzimierz Seneta, Jakub Dolatowski and Jerzy Zieliński. I believe that without a good and solid foundation, it is difficult to rise to the heights.

5. the most inspiring figure is?

I remember when I was a beginning student, I came across the garden designs of Ms. Agnieszka Hubena-Zhukowska. I was very impressed by her work. Those axonometries and projections she created by hand, the division of space, colors, compositions.... They left me in absolute awe.

6 I begin the design process with....

... dreaming and imagining how I will design a given space. Putting together in my head what I saw in the field, heard and felt.

7... Favorite moment while working is...

... positive feedback from a satisfied investor. It wings me and gives me energy to continue working. I always remember that I am designing for someone after all - not for myself.

8. the most important realization in your career is ....

... any current one :)

9. dream project is ....

... all the time in front of me :) Maybe some kind of sensory garden from the real thing?

10. favorite plant is ...

... once without a second thought I would say hydrangea - in different types and varieties. I sign almost every garden I designed with it. Today, however, I can say that plants I call "high-sensory", that is, those that carry not only beautiful appearance, ease of care, but also sensory aspects - smell, touch, sound, taste, health. Among such, I can include my beloved Damask rose Rose de Resht.
