Results of the competition for a universal architectural concept for the interior design of the library children's area

organizer: Tadeusz Różewicz MBP in Wrocław, Faculty of Architecture, PWr.

The Municipal Public Library in Wroclaw has announced the results of a student competition to develop a universal architectural concept for the interior design of the library's children's area. The winning project will be implemented in branch number 37 in Wroclaw.

purpose

The object of the competition is to develop a universal architectural concept for the interior design of the library children's area with flexible furniture and lighting solutions based on the guidelines contained in the regulations.

terms and conditions

The competition is a closed competition, aimed at students of the Faculty of Architecture at the Wrocław University of Technology. Each participant may submit only one statement of participation.

Participants taking part in the competition jointly are required to submit and sign individually the consents and statements required by the regulations.

The organizer provides floor plans and lighting parameters prepared by the administrative department of the MBP, as well as photos of sample spaces from the branches, showing the nature of the interiors to which the participants would develop and adapt their concepts.

The area of the study is the theoretical space of the interior of the library branch with maximum dimensions: 36.4m2 - 11.76 m long, 5.56 m wide, 2.22 m high.

Thescope of the study includes:

  • furniture solutions of standard or individually designed modular character, allowing flexible arrangement of space for rest, study and play for children aged 3-12 years,
  • lighting solution,
  • solutions should be safe in terms of use, hygiene, fire safety and be easy to clean and planned in the spirit of universal design, taking into account the possibility of using recycled materials or the possibility of recycling the materials used or reusing them, etc.

The maximum cost of the concept - works and equipment, should not exceed PLN 60,000.

The concept should assume the possibility of its expansion with further elements and allow for the subsequent execution of the detailed design of the interior arrangement, and their subsequent implementation.

The submission should include a brief description of the project and up to 3 charts of 100 × 70 cm (in electronic version), presenting the solutions in the best possible way to understand and read the design assumptions, including:

  • min. one plan in 1:50 scale and two cross-sections in 1:50 scale and selected two details in 1:20 scale,
  • min. one perspective showing the solution from the human level, technique selected by the author(s) (visualization, drawing, watercolor, etc.),
  • axonometry of the solution at a scale of 1:50,
  • other drawings, perspectives, sketches, diagrams, etc. at the discretion of the author(s),
  • cost estimate of the project.

Submissions will be accepted by means of an application form forwarded by e-mail, along with the boards in electronic version, o to: mbp00@biblioteka.wroc.pl.

prizes

The competition provides for the following prizes:

  • First Prize - 5,000 zlotys gross for the project and an invitation to negotiate a sole-source contract for the development of design documentation and author supervision,
  • Honorable mention - book prizes.

The awarded and honorable mention works will be presented and published on the Library and WA PWr social media and other publications in various media related to the competition.

calendar

  • meeting with the organizer and site visit, answers to questions - December 13, 2023,
  • acceptance of applications - until January 22, 2024 at 2:00 pm,
  • announcement of results - February 19 or February 26, 2024,

  • Grzegorz Kłoda,
  • Anna Janus,
  • Emilia Kubacka,
  • Anna Krysiak,
  • other members invited in the course of the competition.

Rules of conducting the competition evaluation:

  • attractiveness of the proposed architectural solutions, space management and applied functional and spatial solutions of the designed arrangement - the highest mark will be given to the study that proposes the best architectural solution, materials used (planned in the spirit of universal design, taking into account the possibility of using recycled materials or the possibility of recycling the materials used or their reuse, etc.) and interesting functional and spatial solutions and optimal arrangement of functions.) and interesting functional and spatial solutions and the optimal layout of functions, the best comfort of use and the best internal communication - 40 points,
  • economics of technical and material solutions and at the stage of use, pro-ecological and energy-saving solutions - the best solutions in this criterion will be considered solutions that potentially ensure the optimal low cost of implementation of the concept and the lowest cost of energy consumption in the course of normal use of the object, requiring the least expenditure on maintenance and ongoing maintenance, with the least possible need to replace furniture equipment - 45 points,
  • use of spatial solutions consistent with the principle of universal design - 15 points.
