School of Form helps medical services

17 of April '20

School of Form employees and students have produced protective visors for hospital employees using 3D printers. The first batches went to a hospital in Puszczykowo near Poznań and the Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital on Polna Street in Poznań.

The pandemic has caused classes at universities to be held online. School of Form also works remotely, and the faculty team cannot complain about a lack of responsibilities. Despite the flurry of tasks, staff and students have decided to get involved in helping medical services fighting the battle against the coronavirus. Exploiting their knowledge, skills and technical facilities, they created protective visors.

involvement of the entire school

The campaignwas initiated and partially coordinated by designer Dorota Kabala. She obtained rubber bands for visors and PET film fronts. The POLI company from Inowrocław delivered them directly to the private apartment of Ewa Dulcet of Item Projekt. From Ewa's home, several hundred front pieces went to graduate student Ola Lukaszewska, who created her own fab lab and also produces visors. A significant portion of the front pieces went to the home of Adam Biegała, a student and assistant in the ceramics studio. Adam gathered a few 3D printers and began producing parts for the protective visors. Another few hundred front pieces arrived directly at the School of Form.

Helpful 3D printing

Adam adapted a file developed and openly licensed by PRUSA to the printers. Ewa Dulcet learned what materials could be printed so that the visors would meet the required standards, be useful for hospitals and work with the university's equipment. SoF operations director Katarzyna Barcinska took care of purchasing the necessary materials. Prototyping lab assistants Dawid Korzeniewski and Adam Biegała supervised the printers and the entire production process. Printing went on constantly, the spools of filament in the printers were changed even at night.

a close-knit team

We did it! The first fifty pieces of visors created by the team: Tetiana Baran - a specialist in the tailor's studio, Bartek Grześkowiak - manager of the photo-video studio, Ewa Dulcet and Janusz Stefaniak - went to the hospital in Puszczykowo near Poznań. Another batch went to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Hospital on Polna Street in Poznan.
According to the visor makers:

Talks with doctors have confirmed our conviction that such activities are very much needed, as the needs of medical services are also enormous at the moment. We are glad that, at least in this way, we can help medics in the struggle they undertake for all of us.

The visors, thanks to the materials used, are of good quality, can be disinfected and used repeatedly. With further production, School of Form started after Easter.
