Ways to integrate Novgorod Bobrzansky

04 of December '19

AiB patronized the 39th edition of the Maria Dokowicz competition for the best diploma from the University of Arts in Poznan. The main prize was awarded to Justyna Bańbura for her work entitled. "Project for the development of the banks of the Bóbr River in the Nowogród Bobrzański section," carried out under the supervision of Dr. Izabela Idzikowska-Bzdręga.

The subject of the thesis was an attempt to merge together two separate parts that were part of one city - Nowogród Bobrzański, located on the Bóbr River in the southern part of Lubuskie Province. The town was merged into one fabric in the 1990s from two villages lying on opposite banks of the river. Initially, Nowogród Bobrzański included only the areas on the right side of the river, while the left bank was occupied by the larger in area village of Krzystkowice. Despite their transformation into a single town, they form two separate centers without coherent development.

Justyna Bańbura chose the described area not only for its spatial potential (attractive location, proximity to lakes), but also to draw attention to the main problems concerning Novgorod - division, lack of integration and proper communication, especially for pedestrians. After conducting field research and analysis, the author proposed a number of integration measures.

communication

Currently, there is only one footbridge connecting the two banks of the Beaver River. Residents of Nowogrod Bobrzanski, wanting to get from one part of the city to the other, are forced to travel a long way. Some use a shortcut, crossing an old railroad bridge that is unsuitable for pedestrians. Justyna Bańbura proposed creating two additional footbridges and reconstructing pedestrian routes. One of the footbridges was suspended under the railroad bridge, while the other was placed between the two existing bridges. Its hourglass shape is intended to integrate users - by narrowing the footbridge, they are, as it were, forced into closer contact with pedestrians approaching from the opposite direction.

sports

Another proposed solution is to create sports trails on both sides of the river, along the main pedestrian routes. Due to the upland nature of the Beaver River, a canoeing route has also been laid out, with two marinas and a continuation in other towns.

rest

In her design, the author cleaned up the space of the riverbanks, and used their area for a large park and a new recreation center for the city. The circular form of plazas, benches and other elements of small architecture allude to the round table and integration between residents.

fun

The project includes a playground, a playground, hills, and points with interactive games involving participants on the two banks of the river were distributed along the shore.

common safety

Lighting has been distributed throughout the area, allowing the area to be used also in the evenings, and additional lamps have been introduced along the banks of the promenade to improve the visibility of the riverbanks. Alarm points have also been created.

local culture

The author also proposed setting aside a large area of the wharves for an apple orchard for use by the Novgorod Bobrzansky community. She also arranged round garden gazebos and designated a place for planting grapevines (referring to the grape harvest - an annual event of the Zielona Gora district).

The graduate also took into account the development of the area around the lake located in the northern part of the city. Taking advantage of its formation, she used a division into quiet and noisy zones. The former would include marinas for fishermen, while the latter would include a beach and a café. The author also designed sports paths around the entire lake, along with bicycle and boat rentals.

All the activities proposed by Justyna Bañbura are aimed at making Nowogrod Bobrzañski more attractive and solving traffic problems. Due to its conceptual nature, the project can be adapted to other urban spaces.
