Basia Hyjek: What was the main inspiration for the collection?
Weronika Kwiatkowska: The Doki brand originated from the design studio Studio1:1, where for nearly 20 years we designed hundreds of commercial spaces for many of our clients' brands. While realizing large, commercial developments, we had the opportunity to design furniture that was unique in form. for common areas, chillout areas, among others. The author's collection is a natural consequence of our many years of experience.
However, we are not limited to transient fashion. We are committed to making our collection durable and aesthetically universal
Basia: What was the most important thing in creating this collection? What materials were used to create the furniture?
Veronika: When creating the collection, we drew inspiration from the history and architecture of Gdansk, the post-shipyard areas. Our designs refer to the identity of the place where we came to work and live, to its cultural space. Our furniture has a clear structure, we want it to be understandable, transparent and honest. Docks, by definition, do not have a "left side." However, we are not limited to transient fashion. We are committed to making our collection durable and aesthetically versatile. We create according to the principle "Less is not possible, more is not necessary". We are very familiar with the material we work with: wood, steel, top quality eco-leather. We also strive to work with local and trusted manufacturers on a daily basis. We value craftsmanship immensely.
Basia: Please tell us about the products - what is the creative process like?
Veronika: Our interdisciplinary team consists of designers, architects, graphic designers and photographers. In the conceptual stage, the synergy of individual experience and knowledge allows us to create things that are functional, yet stylistically attractive. In the studio we have a professional technical and workshop area. At the pre-production stage, we test the ergonomics and efficiency of the design of our products. We look for the best possible solutions, characterized by attention to quality and every detail.
Most of the team has some elements of the collection at home, such as Terns or UFA poufs
Basia: Do you yourself use your own creations in your homes?
Veronika: Yes. Most of the team has some elements of the collection at their homes, including Terns, or UFA poufs. At the core of building the Doki brand was the need to create something "from ourselves" and "for ourselves," something close to us.
