The finale of the Stefan Kurylowicz Foundation's programs is just a few days away!

29 of October '21

In March of this year we announced the winners of the sixth edition of the Stefan Kurylowicz Foundation 's programs - the THEORY competition and the PRACTICE scholarship. For several months the winners worked intensively to develop their ideas, and this Thursday, November 4, they will present them publicly for the first time.

The finale of both of the foundation's programs will be the premiere of the book "Extra Muros" by Marcin Kitala and Zygmunt Maniaczyk, winners of the TEORIA competition, and the presentation of the "PLASTOPIA" project by Sandra Przepiórkowska, awarded the PRACTICE scholarship.

The purpose of the TEORIA competition is to promote the most interesting texts on the relationship between architecture and culture, and the prize is the bilingual publication of a book in the series "Architecture of Culture - Culture of Architecture." This year, the jury composed of: Ewa P. Porębska, Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, Grzegorz Piątek, Jacek Purchla, Bogna Świątkowska, Marta A. Urbańska and Piotr Sarzyński awarded the text "Extra Muros", whose authors addressed the vision of sustainable tourism in relation to information culture. The architects, Marcin Kitala and Zygmunt Maniaczyk, in the text submitted for the competition, postulated a revival of tourism supported by online information, virtual reality, and discovery of close surroundings, in order to arrive at a balance between the need for freedom and environmental responsibility.

ThePRACTICE Fellowship, on the other hand, is a two-phase program seeking ideas for improving public spaces. In this edition, the jury consisting of: Dorota Szlachcic, Jakub Wacławek, Aleksandra Wasilkowska, Maciej Frąckowiak, Konrad Grabowiecki and Agnieszka Olędzka awarded Sandra Przepiórkowska 's project "PLASTOPIA," appreciating, as we read in thethe justification for the decision, for showing that great design can be based on reflection on the material and the technology of its processing, and for the fact that the discussions about plastic in recent years have not discouraged the author, but prompted a consistent search for a way to actually work with it.

The project is sensitive, yet modest, dealing with subjects that are big, but at the same time fit in the palm of your hand. It interweaves chemical and social processes, on top of that in an important and demanding socialization of public space ," the jury added.

Are you curious about the results of the winners' six-month work? The finals of both programs will be seen online on Facebook and the foundation 's website on November 4 this year at 5 pm.
