Bees are a fascinating example of collaborative intelligence. These industrious insects use hexagonal structures to optimize the space available for honeycombs. Helgoland from Artemide is directly inspired by this unusual design concept: the unique ceiling lamp is composed of compact, hexagonal elements - creating perfect, uniform light.

The key is collaboration

Neither space nor energy is wasted. Just like in a beehive, Helgoland's light slices combine to form a perfect whole. The power distribution of the LEDs is crucial for a perfect energy balance. All the networked optical cells work together to increase the density of the light output. The hexagonal structure ensures that the distances between the lenses are smaller. The result is optimally balanced, harmonious light emission without any shadows.

A tribute to Heisenberg

It is no coincidence that Carlotta de Bevilacqua's design is named after an island. It was on this lonely island in the North Sea that hay fever sufferer Werner Heisenberg laid the foundations of quantum mechanics. The Helgoland light fixture pays tribute to the famous physicist and his discovery - and is itself a testament to physical ingenuity. Thanks to patented refractive technology, the Helgoland luminaire is highly efficient. A specially developed lens captures 100% of the light beam emitted by the LED and re-emits it with minimal loss. This gives a remarkable efficiency of over 90%.

Flexibility and durability

The lamp can be successfully used in different versions. Its LED modules are available as surface-mounted and recessed ceiling lamps in a variety of colors and as spotlights for Artemide's Sylt lighting system. Its low height of just 12.5 mm allows for flexible installation on the ceiling. The lighting unit is magnetically connected to the housing for easy maintenance. Thanks to the Artemide app, the Helgoland luminaire is also very easy to control. Finally, its low energy consumption and consistent reduction in material, surface area and weight make it an extremely sustainable product.
