Although we are still waiting for the official list - we already know many of the nominees for next year's European Union Prize in the Mies van der Rohe Contemporary Architecture Competition. What Polish projects stand a chance for this unique title?

The Mies van der Rohe Prize has been awarded by the European Commission and the Mies van der Rohe Foundation since 1987, every two years, for the best realization completed in the two years preceding the award. So far, despite numerous nominations, the award has gone to Poland only once, and that was for the Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin, designed by Alberto Veiga and Fabrizio Barozzi.

This title, as the competition organizers emphasize, is to appreciate the achievements of European designers, celebrate the diversity of architectural expression and emphasize the role of architecture both as a space for the exchange of ideas and as an element uniting communities.

Nominations at each edition are submitted by national architectural associations and an advisory committee working with the foundation. A seven-member jury will select the best project. The results will be known in stages: a shortlist of forty projects will be announced in January 2026, five finalists will be announced in February, and the winner in April.

The successes of Polish architects and architects are always gratifying, so we are happy to share with you the list of nominated realizations created in our country or outside its borders, but by native artists:
