Concrete architecture 2024

organizer: Chair of Architectural Design WA PK and Association of Cement Manufacturers

Initiated in 2000, the competition is organized by the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology and the Association of Cement Producers. As we read on the competition's website - the annual nationwide competition has gained acceptance from the academic community: this is confirmed by the numerous diploma works submitted. The prestige of the competition is built by members of the jury - authorities of the world of science and architecture, and students - diploma students presenting talent and faith in the function of concrete - an extraordinary material of modern architecture. {More}

Entries for the National Academic Competition for the best thesis of the year, CONCRETE ARCHITECTURE 2024, organized by the Department of Architectural Design of WA PK and the Association of Cement Manufacturers, have begun.

purpose

The establishment of the Concrete Architecture Competition was born from the conviction of the appropriateness of drawing the attention of diploma students to the qualities of the building material, which is becoming an element of a special game for the shape of architecture. What role does concrete play in this game? Here it is necessary to quote Professor Dariusz Kozlowski, who says so: "concrete for an architect is what a diamond is for a jeweler: properly polished it becomes a diamond". Architecture has always used material means - the building material, but its goal was to elevate matter above that matter. The idea of the Competition is to direct attention to inventing the right relationship between concrete and the shape of architecture. It should also be recalled that the animator of the project was Prof. Dariusz Kozlowski, and the long-time commissioner of the competition was Prof. Maria Misiągiewicz. Director of the Office of the Association of Cement Manufacturers Prof. Jan Deja built the foundation of the Competition with the words: "we give you a material that you can transform into any form: breathe the spirit into concrete".

terms and conditions

The Competition is aone-stage competition.

The Competition accepts entries with a participation card confirmed by the thesis supervisor and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture. (The participation card will be forwarded by the Competition Office to the Deans of the Faculties of Architecture and is available on the competition website).

awards

From the submitted projects, the Jury will distinguish any number of works Nominated for the Award. The nomination consists of: a diploma of the Concrete ARCHITECTURE 2024 competition for the author and promoter of the work.

From the nominated works, the Jury awards 3 equal Awards of the Competition. The award for the author/author and the promoter/promoter of the work is:a diploma of the competition BETON ARCHITECTURE 2024 and a cash prize.

In addition, the authors of the awarded works receive a statuette Concrete Architecture by Dariusz Kozłowski.

jury

The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at PK and the Competition Commissioner appoint a jury of a minimum of five persons, consisting of professors from architectural universities, including the jury chairman and the referee. The Jury shall include a representative of the Cement Manufacturers Association. The organizers may invite a non-academic architect from the country or abroad to participate in the Jury.

The Jury is chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at PK or another member of the Jury. The competition commissioner is a member of the jury. Organizational secretaries participate in the work of the jury without voting rights.

Competition for the design of the extension of the existing complex of buildings of the Wielkopolska Oncology Center with the building of Ambulatory Oncology, Prevention, Molecular and Imaging Diagnostics at Garbary Street in Poznań.

organizer: SARP Poznań Branch | investor: Wielkopolska Oncology Center

The Association of Polish Architects Poznań Branch, together with the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Wielkopolska Oncology Center, have announced a competition for the design of the WCO's expansion to include a new building for Outpatient Oncology, Prevention, Molecular and Imaging Diagnostics at Garbary Street in Poznań. {More}

The Association of Polish Architects Poznań Branch, together with the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Wielkopolska Oncology Center , has announced a competition for the design of an expansion of the WCO to include a new building for Outpatient Oncology, Prevention, Molecular and Imaging Diagnostics at Garbary Street in Poznań.

purpose

The purpose of the Competition is to obtain the best architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept for the extension of the existing building complex of the Wielkopolska Oncology Center with the building of Ambulatory Oncology, Prophylaxis, Molecular and Imaging Diagnostics at Garbary Street in Poznan together with the development of the area around the designed building. The organizers of the competition expect participants to submit projects that meet the needs of modern oncological medicine, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of children. The facility is ultimately intended to become the main center for oncological treatment using advanced radiation therapy technologies in Wielkopolska and the whole country. The proposed concepts should express the aspiration of the Wielkopolska Oncology Center to be a pioneer in radiotherapy treatment and scientific research in oncology.

terms and conditions

The competition is a one-stage and implementation competition.

The designed facility is to be divided into 7 blocks organized according to the functions they perform. Blocks are planned to serve technical and teaching functions, pediatric and adult oncology, storage and archival functions, skin oncology prevention, dosimetry and treatment planning, genetics and radiobiology, and the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention with a cancer registry.

Internalcommunication should separate the movement of healthy patients, patients undergoing treatment and children as much as possible. The building should also meet high accessibility standards for people with mobility disabilities. The facility should be designed to be compatible with sustainable development.

Due to the splitting of the buildings belonging to the Wielkopolska Oncology Center into several objects, located on two sides of Garbary Street and the planned parking lot deep inside the plot 3/14, the possibility of internal communication between the separated parts should be ensured. It is assumed that an aboveground, enclosed connector will be designed through Garbary Street, which will allow a functional and communicational connection with the existing buildings of the Wielkopolska Oncology Center. Due to the proximity of the historic St. Francis Seraphim Church at 22 Garbary Street, the planned connector should have a neutral, light and transparent form,

The plots of land intended for the project area are located within the historical buildings of Poznań under conservation supervision, therefore all solutions introduced at the stage of design and construction of the building, the scope of works, program, methods and technologies, materials planned to be used should be agreed with the Municipal Conservator of Monuments. As you can read in the conservation findings, the form of the building, including the connector, should harmonize with the existing buildings, both historical and modern.

For more information , see the factual appendices.

Competition for the development of an architectural concept together with land development for the investment entitled Construction of an educational complex in Zielona Białołęka in the area of Siena Street.

organizer: City of Warsaw, Białołęka District Office

The Białołęka District Office of the Capital City of Warsaw has announced an architectural and urban planning competition for the development of an architectural and land use concept for an educational complex in Zielona Białołęka. The competition is recommended by the SARP.

The Białołęka District Office of the Capital City of Warsaw has announced an architectural and urban planning competition for the development of an architectural and land use concept for an educational complex in Zielona Białołęka. The competition is recommended by SARP.

purpose

The purpose of the competition, as we read in the regulations, is to select the best architectural concept for the school, which should be inviting, designed to stimulate children's imagination and respond to progress, as well as include environmentally friendly solutions. The solutions adopted should remain in accordance with the Architectural and Functional Standards for Elementary Schools and School-Preschool Complexes of the City of Warsaw.

Educational spaces should be flexible, multifunctional. When designing a school, it is important to keep in mind the possibility of using part of the building and outdoor areas after working hours for the benefit of the local community. Communication and recreational spaces inside and outside the building should provide opportunities for both larger groups and separation from the crowd, facilitated, for example, by recesses, arrangement of space under the stairs, etc. It's also good to think about greater openness, glazing between halls and circulation spaces. The building can also serve an educational function, exposing elements of infrastructure, construction.
It is important to pay attention to details, aesthetics, architectural education and the environment, as well as low operating costs. An important consideration is to improve the quality of educational conditions by ensuring high standards of learning for students with special needs.
The competition is to determine the best architectural concept in terms of visual, utilitarian and economic aspects.

terms and conditions

The competition is conducted in a limited, one-stage competition procedure.

The competition task is to create an architectural concept of an elementary school building with accompanying infrastructure in Zielona Białołęka, Sieczna Street, Warsaw. The designed building will serve educational purposes for students without and with various disabilities. The entire building is to consist of 24 branches for students in grades I-VIII; 8 special branches with back rooms and therapy rooms (to be located in a separate wing of the school to ensure quiet during both lessons and breaks); accompanying field facilities.

The building should be functionally divided into the following parts: administration, teaching block for children attending the mainstream divisions, teaching block for children attending the special divisions, canteen with kitchen facilities and dining room, sports hall with the necessary locker room and sanitary facilities, along with storage facilities for sports equipment (the part of the building where the sports hall will be located is also planned for small sports events and group meetings).

All educational classrooms, cafeteria, sanitary facilities, locker rooms and administration should be designed without architectural barriers to ensure free access for people with different types of disabilities.

The building should be designed as low-carbon (preferred: zero-carbon), with the use of RES. It is possible to realize a building with a maximum height of 12 m - three overground floors and one underground floor. Colors on the facade of the building should be subdued. It is possible to use plants on the walls of the building, when selecting plants and related design solutions, however, it should be remembered that the cost of their maintenance should not be too high. The following should be located in the free area: a biodiversity zone, areas with recreational, leisure and educational functions, playgrounds, plazas and access and parking areas.

International platform Archstorming and NGO Wallah We Can have launched a competition to design innovative mobile schools for Palestine that, if ordered to be demolished, can be easily relocated and reassembled in another location.

        purpose

The goal of the competition is to meet the urgent need for educational space in the West Bank. The mobile schools are intended to be an emergency response to the demolition of more facilities in the region and provide children with a sense of stability and normalcy in conflict zones.

        conditions

The mobile schools, constructed of lightweight materials, are to offer quick deployment to different locations as needed to minimize disruption to the educational process.

The school is to be located in the village of Khan Al Ahmar, located in Area C of the West Bank (60% of Area C is under Israeli control). It lacks basic services such as electricity, water and education, and residents recycle all materials into ones that can be used to create living spaces, the most common materials used in their homes being corrugated panels, wood (usually pallets), fabric, tanks and wheels.

The plot of land for the project is located on the slope of the western part of the village. It is 34 meters wide and 55 meters long. The design of the mobile school should be flexible and allow changing the function of individual spaces as needed. It should include four large classrooms that can be divided into two/three, a multipurpose room, office space, sanitary facilities, a medical room, an outdoor playground and rest areas.

The school's structure should be lightweight, portable and created from locally sourced materials. The modularity of the solution and the use of prefabricated elements has the potential to significantly speed up the construction process and ensure its consistency, as well as allow for easy expansion or reduction in size if necessary. Given the high temperatures often experienced in the region, it is important that the structure be able to withstand extreme heat. It is also important to think about the future - structures should be adaptable from temporary to permanent solutions.

Participation in the competition is open to architects and design students from around the world. Projects can be submitted individually or in teams of up to four participants.

        The registration fee is respectively:
        • during early registration: €70 + VAT
        • during standard registration: 90 € + VAT

Competition for the development of an architectural concept for the reconstruction and extension of the complex of the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław

organizer: Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, SARP Wrocław Branch

The Museum of Architecture in Wrocław and the Association of Polish Architects, Wrocław Branch, have announced a competition to develop an architectural concept for the reconstruction and expansion of the museum complex at 7 Bernardyńska Street .

The Museum of Architecture in Wrocław and the Association of Polish Architects, Wrocław Branch, have announced a competition to develop an architectural concept for the reconstruction and expansion of the museum complex at 7 Bernardyńska Street.

                    purpose

The purpose of the competition is to obtain the best architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept for the reconstruction and expansion of the Museum of Architecture complex in Wroclaw, together with the development of the area. The project should take into account the needs of a contemporary and unique in the country museum institution and the specific requirements resulting from the specificity of its premises - the complex of buildings of the former Bernardine monastery and the former church of St. Bernard of Siena, built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.

                    terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, limited, one-stage.

Within the Bernardine complex, the location of a visitor zone - a public zone and permanent and temporary exhibitions with related functions is to be envisaged. The new building, on the other hand, is to be located on the south side, to house, among other things, the building archive, reading room and exhibition preparation zone.

The division of the Museum of Architecture into two facilities requires the creation of a vertical communication and service node within the post-Bernardine complex to the necessary extent required to service this part of the complex. One of the tasks of the competition is to determine its optimal architectural solution, given a number of cubic and preservation constraints.

Within the scope of the competition concept, a proposed path for visiting the permanent exhibition, including the attic of the former church, should be presented. The concept should include user-friendly solutions for all users, including those with limitations. The design task should include full technical modernization of the museum complex in terms of installation, and acoustic comfort of the designed communication and utility interiors should be ensured.

The goal of the competition is to select the best solution for the revitalization of the former Rulmentul industrial site in Brașov. The organizers expect to develop a medium- and long-term urban concept for the entire site, which will take into account future functions and integration with the surroundings. The idea is to create a space of about 11 hectares, including both undeveloped land and the conversion of existing buildings. This space is to become the centerpiece of the project, connecting the new functions with the surrounding area. The project should also include the revitalization of buildings of recognized historical value and their transformation into a cultural center.

                                terms and conditions

The competition task is to create a project that, on the one hand, will restore the historical values of the objects, and, on the other hand, create new spaces that are useful for the residents of Brașov. Projects should take into account the integration of greenery and public spaces, as well as the adaptation of existing buildings to new cultural functions. The competition is one-stage and open to all countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

Competition to develop a concept for the development of Długie Ogrody Street in Gdańsk

                                organizer: Municipality of Gdańsk

                                Gdansk Board of Roads and Greenery, representing the Municipality of Gdansk, has announced an implementation competition for the development of a concept for the development of Dlugie Ogrody Street as an extension of the Royal Route with the restoration of the avenue of trees. {More}

The Gdansk Roads and Greenery Authority, representing the Municipality of Gdansk, has announced a realization competition for the development of a concept for the development of Dlugie Ogrody Street as an extension of the Royal Route with the restoration of the avenue of trees.

                                purpose

The goal of the competition is to restore the former glory of Dlugie Ogrody Street in Gdansk by reconstructing the road and its surroundings and reconstructing an avenue of trees along the street. According to the organizers' assumptions, the place is to gain more greenery for everyone by reducing the number of parking spaces.

                                terms and conditions

The competition is an implementation competition, unlimited, one-stage.

The subject of the competition is to create a concept for the development of Długie Ogrody Street in Gdansk (on the section from Stągiewny Bridge to the flyover in the course of Elblaska Street / Podwale Przedmiejskie Street, together with the area around Żuławska Gate and a fragment of Krowoderska Street) as an extension of the Royal Route with the restoration of the avenue of trees. The total area of the competition study is nearly 2.7 hectares.

According to the competition assumptions, it is necessary, among other things, to emphasize the axial layout of Długie Ogrody Street, propose a spectrum of functionality for the street as a public space, take into account the annual St. Dominic's Fair, give priority to pedestrian transportation, preserve between 20% and 30% of the existing parking spaces, when reconstructing the avenue of trees, take into account the historical context, referring to the layout depicted on the Buhse Plan, assume a significant increase in biologically active space and introduce species resistant to urban conditions.

The Polish Lighting Industry Association, in cooperation with the studios Goczołowie Architekci Studio Autorskie and OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci, as well as the SOMA agency, the organizer of the ŚWIATŁO International Fair in Warsaw, has announced a design competition - "Lighting fixture for busbar".

ThePolish Lighting Industry Association, in cooperation with the studios Goczołowie Architekci Studio Autorskie and OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci, as well as the SOMA agency, organizer of the ŚWIATŁO International Fair in Warsaw, has announced a design competition - "Lighting fixture for busbar".

                                  purpose

The purpose of the competition is to design a lighting fixture for a 230VAC three-circuit busbar. Busbars are technical elements accompanying lighting that allow for dynamic changes: the position of the luminaire can be changed, and light sources can be added or subtracted depending on the needs and situation.

The jury expects unconventional design solutions for luminaires or entire lighting systems, which will become a complement to the architecture of interiors of different character and purpose. The designer should take into account not only the visual effect, impression and lighting function, but also the safety of use related to the distribution of light flux and electrical power. The design requires a general explanation of the principle of construction and operation.

                                  terms and conditions

The competition is an open, international and one-stage competition. It is directed to people associated with architecture, art, design, and all fields of art. The competition is open to both individuals and teams. Competition entries must be own works, not previously published anywhere, not the subject of any other competition, and unencumbered by legal defects or claims of third parties.
The competition task is to design a luminaire for a busbar (TEAR family of busbars from the KANLUX range). The focus should be on the design of the luminaire itself for power supply using an existing TEAR-type adapter (for 230VAC mains power supply) or publicly available DC power supplies built into the rail adapter (in-track driver for integrated LED luminaires).
The luminaire can have a replaceable or non-replaceable light source. It can be decorative or designed for specialized purposes. The competition proposal should take into account the type of room and determine the function of the lighting, and then design a luminaire that fits formally and functionally into the chosen spatial and functional situation.
The project should go beyond the limits of typical thinking about the construction and design of lighting fixtures and the possibilities of illuminating surfaces, spaces and objects in different types of interiors.
A very important aspect of the design is the actual feasibility of the design, so that it offers the possibility of producing a prototype series. The preferred material is sheet metal.

TheKarol Marcinkowski University Hospital in Zielona Góra, in cooperation with the Association of Polish Architects, Zielona Góra Branch, has announced a competition to develop a concept for the buildings of the Lubuskie University Oncology Center (LUCO) at the University Hospital, together with the retrofitting of the Department of Pathomorphology and the Department of Radiotherapy, as well as land development.

                                        purpose

The purpose of the competition, as we read in the regulations, is to obtain the best architectural, spatial and functional-utility concept for the hospital buildings.

                                        terms and conditions

The competition is a one-stage, implementation, limited competition.

The subject of the competition is the architectural and spatial concept of the new Oncology Center (LUCO) building with an aboveground connector functionally integrating it with the existing Central Operating Block located in the C1 building (CBO expansion) and land development. The interconnection of the facilities (the new rooms are to be a structural part of the existing CBO) is expected to facilitate personnel management, distribution of operations and increase treatment efficiency. A connection between the LUCO building and the adjacent Polyclinic building is also under consideration.

The planned development is located in the northeastern part of the hospital site. The site has existing one-story buildings slated for demolition.

The scope also includes the purchase of medical and non-medical equipment for the listed Departments, Laboratory or Department of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiotherapy and Pathomorphology, located in other facilities of the Hospital, but functionally related to the created Oncology Center.

The project should take into account the ongoing reconstruction of the internal traffic system of the Hospital site, which is being carried out under the Polish Order program.

The main considerations are: adaptation of the task to the budget; use of construction technologies that take into account the two-year term of the investment and the limited size of construction facilities; limitation of noise and other construction nuisances; use of technologies using the closed-cycle economy (the 3R principle: reduce, reuse, recycle); optimization of the energy properties of the building, aiming to reduce the operating costs of the facility; possibility of staging the investment in the execution of construction works.
