Between art and quarantine - people recreate famous works in their homes

15 of May '20

During the quarantine period, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles invited anyone willing to participate in the "Getty Museum Challenge" - to recreate scenes from famous paintings in their homes. The museum's action exceeded expectations, as did the creativity of the people from all over the world locked in their apartments. There is no shortage of coronavirus references on these "reproductions."

Toilet paper rolls, masks and gloves - these are the most frequently scrolled accessories used to reproduce familiar images. Many participants put a lot of effort and energy into faithfully recreating well-known works, but most often they are tinged with humor. The cross-section of works is really wide - from Renaissance and Baroque paintings to graphic works by Keith Haring or sculptures by Jeff Koons.

The idea for this game, however, did not belong to the J. Paul Getty Museum. The action was originally initiated on the Dutch Instagram account Tussen Kunst & Quarantaine, which translates to "between art and quarantine." It currently has as many as 275,000 followers and 615 posts (every day this number grows!).
