How to design a school well? Renovation or new construction? Is there a recipe for an architectural icon? We invite you to the spring edition of the Festival of Open Architectural Studios, an event accompanying the International Congress on Culture of the Regenerative City in Łódź (May 14-15). What studios will we visit together?

Ahead of us is the ninth edition of FOPA, the Festival of Open Architectural Studios organized by A&B since 2018. FOPA is a unique opportunity to learn about the work of the best design studios in Poland and around the world from behind the scenes, get a sneak peek at the way the architects work, and ask about their perspective on the profession. All meetings will be broadcast live on A&B's YouTube channel and Facebook page.

This time, we will visit offices in Katowice and Warsaw:

OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci
May 13, at 1 pm

This is one of the most interesting architectural studios of recent years! The award-winning office from Silesia (they have more than 50 awards and prizes to their credit!) is led by Barbara and Oskar Grąbczewscy (for whom, as he himself writes, architecture is real fun!). The architects are the authors of such icons as the Mies van der Rohe Award-nominated Fire Museum in Żory or the Paleontological Pavilion in Krasiejów, appreciated with the SARP Grand Prix of the Year Award. However, the team is not resting on its laurels  the Cognitarium Knowledge Center, which was selected in a competition procedure, is currently under construction in Koszalin, according to a design by OVO Grąbczewscy Architekci studio.

Founding the studio in 2007, Natalia Paszkowska and Marcin Mostafa set the bar very high for themselves they began their work with the design of the already famous Polish Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai, the facade of which was modeled on a folk cut-out. Since then, they have continually been one of the most interesting young studios on the Polish market, which in its activities often goes beyond mere architecture, for example, creating architectural and functional standards for elementary schools and pre-school complexes of the City of Warsaw "School Well Designed".

Grupa 5 Architekci
May 17, 1 pm

The Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice, the redevelopment of the Abraham Gurewicz Sanatorium in Otwock or the Monopolis in Lodz are just three examples of their projects from recent years, and each of them can boast more than one industry accolade, including SARP Awards of the Year or a nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Award! For 25 years, Grupa 5 has been one of Poland's leading architectural studios, which not only successfully creates new buildings, but also takes on the challenges of modernizing existing ones, thanks to which the architects have established themselves as true experts in this field.

The Festival of Open Architectural Studios is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes of what happens every day in architectural offices and personally ask the architects working in them about issues of interest to our profession. We invite you to the spring edition of FOPA and the International Congress on the Culture of the Regenerative City. See you there!
